Marblehead is a lovely town and the "City Hall" is a most interesting "museum". The 7 Washington Cruisers flew a flag much like the reconstructed Liberty Tree Flag, or Washington Cruisers Flag, which was the TRUE "First Navy Flag", NOT the "fake snake" flag that now flies on the bow of American Navy ships due to misinformed quasi-historians in the Secretary of the Navy's office back during the Bicentennial in the mid-1970s.

George Washington served as the President of the Constitutional Convention so is aware of some key provisions of that "Miracle in Philadelphia", one of which is Article I, Section 9, "the importation of such persons...", not slaves, bondservants, or chattel.

This Constitution recognized the manhood, the "personhood" of the black people who had been imported to the various states (by the state with the most number of slave traders from 1720 to 1808, when outlawed by this Constitution, was "The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations").

President Jefferson signed the legislation to implement that Article of this Constitution on 1 January a.d. 1808, the first day possible.

Article IV, Section 4 is also a key provision, for it is a reminder that our Founding Fathers were wise to know to fear a Democracy, so they created a Republican form of government, as herein stated.

The Lady in the red coat on the left of the upper left photo is The First Lady, "Mrs. George W.", Mrs. George W. Bush, that is, Laura Bush, who on Tuesday, 15 January visited Washington Mill Elementary School, the closest school to the Mount Vernon mansion house, just a little ways outside the West Gate, in Westgate subdivision.

The Lady standing is "Mrs. George W.", Mrs. George Washington, or Martha Washington, wonderfully portrayed by the wonderful lady Mary Wiseman of Potomac Avenue in the Mount Vernon magisterial district.

The photo graced the front page of The Alexandria Times on Thursday, 17 January. The other photos are of "George" in front of many a classroom already... But this "George" most heartily approves of these paintings of George being proudly placed in every American classroom!

Below shows "George" beside a painting of George by a Japanese artist that was given to President Harry Truman on display at the Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri. "Harry" is portrayed by Truman biographer and Living Historian, Neil Johnson, who used to work at the Truman Library.

Truman said his three favorite Statesmen in History, were Cato and Cincinnatus of the Roman Republic, and Washington of our American Republic (NOT a "Democracy" a form feared by the Founding Fathers, and wisely so!)

GW with little Miss Hailey in Washington, DC

Little Miss Hailey for several days on a visit to Washington, D.C. had been asking her parents and grand-parents to see George Washington, and they tried to say, "Sweetie, George Washington is not around any more to meet with you."

Here you see Miss Hailey's pretty head covered by GW's Trinity Hat... one where "GW" has been protected in many a battle doing GW...

As she came onboard the Cherry Blossom, who did Miss Hailey meet but "George Washington", upon which she turned to her folks and said assuredly, "See, I told you so..."

The night of Independence Day, along with Leadership Institute and president Morton Blackwell, a man like George Washington who is creating a new generation of leaders for America,...

... little Miss Hailey and her family went on the Cherry Blossom stern-wheeler riverboat from Alexandria up the Potomac River to be best positioned to watch the annual Independence Day fireworks.

Turns out that GW and Miss Hailey are related, in that Miss Hailey is a descendant from another of Mary Ball Washington's children!

Here you see "Le Grand Trio" ~~ the "grand" Miss Hailey, "Bop" her Grand Pop, and Grand PaPa George (Washington), the "father of His country", and grandfather of His country, too!

By the way, here "PaPa" is short for "Pater Patrae" or Latin for "father of the country".

"George Washington" gave Miss Hailey a copy of "tHis Constitution for the United States of America" with a picture of George Washington reaching out with a quill pen to you to also sign this Constitution, and asked little Miss Hailey to read this Constitution and read it to others.

Over the next days and months, Miss Hailey repeatedly asked her folks to read to her this Constitution, and they did. The proud PaPa of Hailey plays for the New Orleans Saints...

"Oh when the Saints go marchin' in, I want to be there in that number..." There were more French "Saints" who marched at Yorktown (over 25,000) than American "Saints" (about 9000) and more than those "sinners" the British under General Cornwallis (about 21,000). Yet also remember that the British Army reportedly played the tune "The World Turned Upside Down". How fitting because on 9 July a.d. 1776, General Washington gave the Order to His army, "The General hopes and trusts that every officer and man shall endeavor so to live and act as becomes a Christian soldier...".

And then remember that in Acts 17:6 is written that the early Christians turned the world upside down. This band of early American Christian Soldiers turned the world upside down by defeating the mightiest Army on earth, the British Army!

Before leaving the Cherry Blossom, Miss Hailey asked her Grand-folks, GrandPop "Bop" and "Granny Sue" also known as "GaGa" if she could stay with GW and live in the White House.

Two of Washington's soldiers, Captain William Washington, nephew of the General, and Lieutenant James Monroe, were shot in the Raid on Trenton. Yet later Monroe became Minister to Spain where he obtained a $15 million dollar gift from the King of Spain,

...and Spain later captured New Orleans from the British!

Our War for Independence was the "World War" of its time, and Washington was called by Thomas Paine, author of "Common Sense", as the "World's Apostle of Liberty" with parks and plazas, statues and streets, cities and counties named for Washington all across America and around the world.

Minister James Monroe returned from Spain to became a member of the Continental Congress that received the Resignation of General Washington in Annapolis on 23 December a.d. 1783 when as victorious General he "wowed the world" by peacefully giving over power to the civilian government. That date should be honored along with the 17th of September, the 4th of July, and the 22nd of February!

(Of course every Patriotic American knows the significance of each of those other three days, plus the 11th of September, Patriots' Day, when American forces lost a battle in Pennsylvania but in the American loss saved the Congress in Philadelphia not far from the Battle of Brandywine where General Lafayette was wounded.)

That December date with destiny, or date of Divine Providence, was the first time a military leader had peacefully relinquished power in over 2000 years, since before the birth of Jesus Christ, since the time of the Roman Republic (not the Roman Empire) and the Roman Generals Cato and Cincinnatus. Washington has been compared to Cato, and is called the "Cincinnatus of the West".

In fact, there is a Fort Washington in Cincinnati, Ohio, a town named for George Washington.

King George III at the time was amazed at the subjugation of ego in Washington and said that Washington was the greatest man of his time or perhaps all time.

President Truman said his three favorite statesmen in world History were Cato, Cincinnatus, and Washington, and Truman was a wise man.

By foregoing power, George Washington truly gave birth to our American Republic (NOT a "Democracy" that the wise Founding Fathers feared), and so is rightly called the "father of His country", where His refers to Jesus, not George!

Later, James Monroe was elected Senator from Virginia, and of course became the Fifth President. The only race he lost was to little Jamey Madison for the First Congress. Monroe lost because little Jamey Madison got the support of Baptist pastor John Leland when he promised to work for a set of Amendments to this Constitution that became know as the Bill of Rights , and Jamey Madison was a true gentleman, true to his word and promise.

Most Americans do not realize that one of the 12 amendments prepared by Jamey Madison was not Ratified at the time (15 December a.d. 1791) but finally was Ratified by the States on 7 May a.d. 1992 by the vote of Michigan, over 200 years later, so became the 27th Amendment!

She said to tell George hello! ... the child does have the joy of the Lord. She loves Jesus!

So in the Spirit of the Revolutionary James Monroe, who suffered injury at Trenton yet persevered to be elected Senator, and become one of America's greatest Presidents, upon entering Kindergarten at the end of this summer, Miss Hailey ran for -- and was elected -- as Senator from her class, and plans to run for President in due time... all at Godspeed!

Who is that tall good lookin' fellow beside "George Washington"?

Not the Minister to France and his Minister of State, Thomas Jefferson, but rather the able aide, "Colonel" Steve Isom of Cayce, South Carolina, who happens to belong to that distinguished group known as "War Eagles".

Colonel Isom seems to spend time in those hallowed halls of the South Carolina legislature (GW knows about that sort of work from his years in Virginia's House of Burgesses a "few" years ago.)

Colonel Isom has managed to show elected servants that it is a wise way to go to go and go and go with electricity powered cars like you see the Colonel waving from that blue green model. With the tax benefits that are now allowed, more than a few folks are green with envy, and will be blue if they do not get Zap-ped for themselves!

The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Saint Louis Church of Mount Vernon carry an anno domini 1948 "Our Heritage" painting by Norman Rockwell in banner form showing George Washington kneeling in Prayer with a Boy Scout and a Cub Scout looking up to him.

The Scouts are joined in this 210th Anniversary George Washington Birthday Parade on the George Washington Birthday Federal Holiday by "The Spirit of George Washington LIVES!" who appeared in the parade for the first time ten years ago, and at that 200th Anniversary Parade won first place in the contest held that year for a "George Washington Look Alike".

Within days of the Birthday of President Ronald Reagan on 6 February, the aide to General George Washington packed up the wagon and headed north from the beautiful Blue Ridge to within yards of Arlington Ridge Road to set up a new GW Headquarters in advance of the George Washington Birthday Federal Holiday on Monday, 19 February, and the traditional GW birthday of 22 February. In 1932 — the year in which our first president, George Washington, would have celebrated his two-hundredth birthday — Harvard historians were busy trying to figure out exactly how to sum up the man, his life and his career.

They determined, according to authors Patrick Gerster and Nicholas Cords, that a comparison or two might be in order.

As it were, however, no less than seven would prove satisfactory.
Washington, our Crimson friends wrote, “was bolder than Alexander, more crafty than Hannibal, wiser than Caesar, more prudent than Gustavus Adolphus, more resourceful than Frederick, more sagacious than Napoleon and more successful than Scipio.”

’Twas, put simply, quite the “World’s Best Dad” acclamation for the Father of the United States.

GW swarmed by Sixth Graders to autograph Constitution

In the Fincastle Herald, published in the town where there is a Revolutionary War cemetary that has more veterans from the Revolutionary War than any other cemetary in America, the Spirit of George Washington LIVES! again in the hearts, minds and souls of 220 Sixth Grade Students who heard History Come Alive.

As General Washington, LCDR Manship spoke for 45 minutes on "this Constitution for this United States of America".

GW charged the students of Read Mountain Middle School to read the mountain of wisdom contained in this Constitution, and to read at least the Preamble to ten other persons, parents, pastors and pals.

At the end, students swarmed around LCDR Manship for him to sign "GW" on their copies of this Constitution, which is what you see in this photo.

"Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die..."

George Washington gave Grace before the supper and then addressed the business school students from colleges and universities from South Carolina to West Virginia gathered for a competition in Free Enterprise underwritten by the Sam Walton Foundation.

The GW address spoke to His Story, including the history of Christian merchants and missionaries to China, the father and son team of Nicolai and Marco Polo. GW shared that in a.d. 1275 when Marco Polo traveled with his father Nicolai to the Court of Kublan Khan in China a man could buy a paperback book with paper money, an aspect of both communications and commerce not possible in Europe at the same time.

Yet years earlier the Kubla Khan was so impressed with Christianity as a benefit for his people that he told Nicolai Polo to return with 100 teachers of Christianity. However, the Pope only sent 3 Friars, and they turned back after the caravan was attacked by bandits in the Middle East. What a lost opportunity for acting on the Great Commission to go into all the world and share the Good News!

However, that same printing press technology that the Chinese and the Koreans had in the 1200s eventually made its way to Germany with the Gutenberg Printing Press.

There came the difference. Who remembers what was printed in China in the 1200s? Who remembers what was the first book to be printed on the Gutenberg printing press? Much of the world knows the first book on the Gutenberg press was the Holy Bible.

Years later, King James I of England tasked the church scholars of his day to prepare an authorized version of the Holy Bible and printed in 1611, which is known today as either the King James Version (KJV) or the Authorized Version.

That KJV Bible was used in the early settlement of Jamestowne in the colony of Virginia where the third paragraph was the purpose to "propagate the Christian religion to the inhabitants thereof..."

And today, you can go to the Dollar General store and with ONE General George Washington Dollar bill you can buy a paperback copy of the King James Version Bible, like Marco Polo was NOT quite able to do in China in a.d. 1275 under the king, or Kubla Khan.

The point is that a "Silent Partner" in any truly successful business is the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. And this Constitution for the United States of America measures its birth from the Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"GrandPaPa George" Revolutionary Reader Read-Along at the Founders' Inn in Virginia Beach with the wonderful Warren family of nearby Chesapeake where some time ago a much younger GW surveyed a route through the Great Dismal Swamp for the Chesapeake and Albemarle Canal as part of the grand plan to promote interstate commerce by means of an extensive network of intracoastal waterways.

The books in the young lady's lap are the "Jefferson Bible" (the lavender book) that tells the truth about the first "Jefferson Bible" being a "Gospel Tract" from the "Great White Chief" - the President, and what some historians and politicians say about Jefferson "cutting out the parts he did not agree with, the Virgin Birth, and the Miracles" is very deceptive. The truth is that the "Jefferson Bible" is very close to what we today might describe as a "Red Letter Only" New Testament. That explains why the Virgin Birth and the description of Jesus' Miracles are "cut out", because Jesus never described the Virgin Birth, or the Miracles. However, in one verse in John, Jesus did list the Miracles, which Jefferson included, so Jefferson did NOT deny the Miracles of Jesus by "cutting them out" of the so-called "Jefferson Bible".

The top book is a children's book telling of the Constitutional Convention where Washington was unanimously elected as the President over the Convention. One writer has tabulated that 38 of the 55 men at the Constitutional Convention had served under Washington's command, and so had total faith in Washington's integrity and leadership.

The light blue book is "The Making of George Washington" by W.W. II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Brigadier General William Hale Wilbur, US Army. It is probably the best book written to understand the unique way Washington was educated to prepare him to be the greatest leader in American history and the Man for the Millenniums, the most important man in the whole wide world in the past 1000 years!

The book in the lap of "GrandPaPa General" is the book about Trenton written in the Year of Our Lord 2004 by "Second Lady" Lynne Cheney. The Warren's had already read that book, so instead GrandPaPa George read to them a favorite of his and his aide's beloved boy Jamey, the book "George Washington's Breakfast". Three copies of the book had been sent to General Washington by a children's literature expert, Mrs. Murray, in the fall of a.d. 2000.

In December a.d. 2000, one copy was given to Senator-Elect George Allen at the Hotel Roanoke (see post on that occasion below). About the same time another copy was sent to "Mrs. President George W." -- the First Lady Laura Bush, and she sent a nice thank you note.

Here in this photo you can compare the painting on the wall, "the real thing", and the printed picture on the greenback GW dollar.

Notice the noses.

By the way, that explains how this man fit "The Making of George Washington" as the book title says; Jeremiah 1:5 reads: "God knew His purpose for you before He formed you in your mother's womb to be a prophet to the nations."

That explains why God took an extra long time to form....

... an extra long nose...

so this man could portray George Washington, "the father of His country"!

Oh yeah!

Who is the true "Top Dog"? "GW" in Roanoke Times - Neighbors South - Community p. 4

"Top Dogs"
is the headline with photos on the "magazine" section Neighbors South of the Friday, 5 January a.d. 2007 issue of The Roanoke Times.

At the very top is the leader line "2006 Movies @@ Good, bad, and really ugly."

In America and Virginia in a.d. 2006 have been some really ugly fights of "The same fight" - the same old fight, the fight for the minds and hearts and votes of Americans so to control the reigns of government and reign over the people who give power to the public servants, not public officials, or public leaders, or even representatives of the public, but rather public servants.

Remember that President Washington would close his letters with the words:
"Your most humble & obedient servant,"

Might it be wise that if George Washington was conscious of being an obedient servant of the public in our American Republic (NOT a "democracy" a form of government that the Founding Fathers feared), that today's "public servants" might humble themselves to be wise and do likewise?

On the front page of The Roanoke Times are the headlines:

"The same fight"

and

"Pelosi takes up gavel as first female speaker".

Is that a gavel or a gauntlet?

Is it a duty or a duel?

Yet far away from the limelight of the national events and the front page, back in the real world deep in the heart of America, in the beautiful and blessed Blue Ridge, on the Community page, page 4, of the Neighbors South section, is the headline:

"George Washington in the flesh". (and it appears also...in the blood?)

Retired many a year ago, "George Washington" is no longer our Nation's most sought after leader, or even a "Top Dog". Sadly, many students do not even remember who Washington was, the "Man for the Millenniums", the "World's Apostle of Liberty", the "Caped Crusader for this Constitution", the "father of His country", "America's Original Action Hero", the man who as President was "Second to None".

And in this article, the Top Dog may well be truly -- a dog -- a hunting dog afraid of the sound of gunfire,...

...whereas a brash and brave, young George Washington once wrote after a battle that may have started the French and Indian War "There is something lovely about the sound ..." of a bullet whizzing by.

Crazy you say? Crazy like a Fox! (related to a Top Dog?) Certainly the lovely sound is more sweet than the thud of bullet hitting you!

...but also "GW" was sharing a warning based on his own experience to ONLY GIVE ONE TIME on this one day -- three times in six months is also fine -- but NOT THREE TIMES in ONE DAY, for that, as Washington came to know, will really "lay you low..."

...and like George Washington LIVES! take quite some time to revive and really live again!

The article by Roanoke reporter Erica Myatt also tells how on Christmas Night, "GW" went to visit Veterans in the Salem V.A. Hospital, and to (kneel and) pray with them.

The article also tells how the local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Chapter of premier patriot ladies gather gifts to take to the Veterans in the Salem V.A. Hospital,...

... and tells how one of their fine young ladies, their Vice Regent, Mrs. Samuel Fishburne Woody (Lee Hardin Woody) takes her gun-shy Labrador Retriever to the V.A. Post Traumatic Stress unit for Pet Therapy with the "Shell Shocked" and gun-shy Veterans there.

Truly a dog is a man's best friend, (next to a loving lady like Lee, its master, that is... don't want to create bad blood with the women-folk) and the Veterans love this dog's unconditional gift of love, a quality of love that most women or men have yet to learn how to give. What a Top Dog! (The Top Dogs in the photo below are Zoe Mae, the black Lab, and the yello Lab is Zeb a.k.a. "The Mess Pot" -- let's not ask from what that name derives... but somehow Lee is now known to some as the "Mess Pot Mama". )

And - oh by the way - the article does not have room to mention that the caring and loving lady who takes her Labrador to "love up" on the Veterans, cares for the soldiers like Martha Washington did, (see post below about the song the soldiers created and named "To my Hero, George" or "Lady Washington" that was "recorded" by an officer in General Washington's Army named Captain George Bush, yep, same name and former rank as the current president), and this fine lady just so happens to be a "Washington Family Descendant", ...

...who "George Washington" was able to meet "his Cousin Lee" just a wee two months before in October at a Washington Family luncheon in Yorktown and dinner in Williamsburg, both held in conjunction with the 225th Anniversary Celebrations of the Revolutionary War Yorktown Victory (in Jesus) Battle and British Surrender to Lincoln not Washington (read more on that in a post below),...

... where the American Army "turned the world upside down" as described in Acts 17:6, ...

The article tells a lot very nicely yet does not have the room to share that Washington's very special Cousin Lee Woody is a Learning Specialist/Assistive Technology School Specialist teacher at Cave Springs Middle School where on 15 November her "cousin" George Washington made a surprise visit to her and her students...

... after GW was talking at Faith Christian School directly across the street on the topic of "this Constitution for the United States of America"...

...and providing the teacher Mrs. Habib for each student his or her own copy of "this Constitution for"...

... along with a study sheet for a deeper understanding of the Supreme origins of the Supreme Law of the Land...

...that at this time of Christmas gift giving, of presents -- the present or gift of blood -- that connects each Citizen with the priceless gift of Liberty in Law that is this Constitution, a gift purchased for all Americans with so much pain, suffering, sacrifice, and blood...

When we think of all that we have been given in this much Blessed by God country, and we think of the soldiers at Trenton and Valley Forge, whose feet bled in the snow for lack of shoes and yet they marched onward as Christian Soldiers; who gave their lives for our Liberty, we recognize what a great Gift Our Father God gave us on Constitution Day. and even more so at Christmas, the gift of His Son, Jesus, the Supreme Law made Flesh.

Finally, this post was posted originally on the Twelfth Day of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and on this day, January 6th, in the Year of Our Lord 1759, George Washington made the best decision in his well lived life, when with the widow Martha Dandridge Custis by his side in the White House (her plantation home in Virginia, not the Executive Mansion in Washington), he said those life changing words when blessed with a God given marriage,

One of my "scouts" who sends me intelligence, sent me a packet of information --

The "Dean" of George Washington's William Sommerfield is, or has, retired. Bless him, for he has done much to reawaken the American mind to the life of Washington.

The new Mount Vernon George Washington, Dean Malissa, was chosen from among the members of Sommerfield's Philadelphia American Historical Theater.

Some years ago, some Revolutionary War re-enactors told me they heard Sommerfield missed an event due to sickness and was planning to retire, so I wrote a letter to Jim Rees, Executive Director of Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens who I first met when I served as a volunteer at Mount Vernon, and later interacted with when Governor Gilmore appointed me to the Board of Visitors to Mount Vernon, offering to be an understudy to Sommerfield and stand-in when he was not able to make an engagement due to sickness or other cause. I did not receive a reply from Rees, or Sommerfield.

My first time as George Washington was some years before that letter, in the 200th Anniversary of the City of Alexandria George Washington Birthday Parade in a.d. 1997. Though I did not know there was that year a competition for the "George Washington Look-Alike", there was, and I won from among I believe 8 George Washington interpreters in the parade that year.

The year I began performing GW was in a.d. 1999 for about 95 American Christian Tour high school groups from all across America when in Washington, I was also on the Mount Vernon Board of Visitors. Mr. Sommerfield and I met in Richmond at the Virginia Historical Society at an opening of a double Washington exhibit (he in GW uniform, me in modern attire, wouldn't it have been fun if for the double exhibit there had been a "double presence" of George Washington - he and me?).

We had the occasion to chat a moment, whereupon I shared with Mr. Sommerfield that I had had the joy that year of performing as George Washington at that point to about 75 student tour groups, expecting that we might share some friendly banter about the fun and challenging questions one receives when serving as GW, or something of the like in pleasant conversation.

Rather than a comment of camaraderie, Mr. Sommerfield retorted: "You are not tall enough to be George Washington."

Beyond the fact that I was "a shade" taller than Mr. Sommerfield, I did not respond with that obvious observation. Instead, I responded:

"Sir, let me assure you, that height is but one of many ways where -- I -- will NEVER -- measure up to George Washington!"

Mr. Sommerfield's eyes widened to look like saucers, but said he not another word. We went each our separate ways.

Interestingly that event was on 2 July a.d. 1999, if I recall correctly. The next month in August, I took a young man from Soweto, South Africa who I had met at a Biblical Worldview Conference in Charlottesville given by Providence Foundation to view the same double GW exhibit enroute to taking him to the Richmond airport.

There I saw a letter from a 32 year old George Washington to his tailor in London, Mr. Charles Lawrence, telling him to make a suit of clothes for him writing "for a man of my height, to wit, six feet high..."

So whatever historians, including David McCullough in his otherwise wonderful book "1776", may say that George Washington was 6 foot 2 to 6 foot 4, both George Washington and his tailor thought otherwise. What did they know that modern historians don't know?

And by the way, GW's grandson, or rather Martha's grandson, George Washington Parke Custis, father in law of Robert E. Lee, in his biography of George Washington, "Recollections and Private Memoirs of George Washington" said his grandfather was "a shade over six feet".

Also I have read somewhere that George Washington's primary doctor, Dr. James Craik, measured Washington on the day of his death at six feet.

However, a few years ago when I was on the Mount Vernon Board of Visitors and I asked why they kept saying GW was 6-2 to 6-4 (which was it?) they trotted out that another of the three doctors, Dr. Brown I believe I recall, wrote that Washington was 6-3 and a half.

While Washington is an amazing man, you can add to that list of amazing feats that while he did not grow "feets" after he died, according to one doctor, he did grow inches!

Or at least in the minds of historians he grew inches.

I have written that far too many historians elevate Washington in height, while they diminish him in stature.

That used to be the case, but there has in the past decade been a revival of Washington books that praise the man,...

and in the past year six books on Washington and his Christian faith where he prayed and praised his Lord Jesus.

By the way, one of my intelligence scouts is "Private Barney Google". He seems to be able to sift through the WWW - Whole Wide World - of information to find relevant data.

At this Christmas time of gift giving, General Washington thanked fellow citizens for doing their "duty to God and their Country" by giving the gift of Life through the gift of blood.

GW gave each giver some wise advice:
"Now please learn from my example... give ONLY ONE time today !

Quite a few years ago I gave blood three times in one day, and it laid me low for quite some time.

So three times in six months is fine, but NOT three times in one day, OK?"

GW then said, General Light Horse Harry Lee, father of Robert E. Lee, said in a Eulogy of me (which may suggest what may occur if you give three times in one day), these words:
"First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen..."
...and this drive I was first in line so my blood can flow in the hearts of my countrymen, which is the same patriotic duty that you are doing, Thank You! God Bless You, and God Bless America!"

I am the fellow who portrays George Washington, the man "First in the Hearts of his Countrymen..."

Today after another visit to the V.A. office, I returned home by way of Towers Mall where I saw your Red Cross Bloodmobile Bus, and made the instant "Command Decision" to donate a pint of blood of "George Washington LIVES!" so others may live.

Below is a playful banter with a Washington "cousin" about that GW blood donation, and other GW related items, that may entertain you.

The fine folks of the Bloodmobile mentioned that you have a big event this Monday and Tuesday at the Roanoke Civic Center.

I have a performance for the Artistic Director of Young Audiences of Virginia who is coming to town this Monday, so it would be easy for me to ride my "carriage" down a few miles to add to your event.

I could greet folks and thank them for giving blood so others may live.

Not knowing the program, I know not what else I may do to better serve you.

And to honor GW and his bloodletting about this time of year 207 years ago, this afternoon I donated blood to the Red Cross at Towers Mall on the way back from the V.A.

A diamond from the rough?

This thoughtful note and Cracker Jack prize was mailed 30 October a.d. 2006 from Captain Wensing in the suburban Washington DC area, to "Manship" where the stamp shows a ship manned by God fearing men whose purpose in part as described in the Virginia Charter of 10 April a.d. 1606 was the "propagation of the Christian religion to the inhabitants thereof..." that crossed the Atlantic beginning in December a.d. 1606, and arrived at Cape Henry in late April a.d. 1607, and after scouting around the various rivers that pour into the Chesapeake Bay at Hampton Roads, found a good site a bit up the James River, where they settled, to form Jamestowne.

At Jamestowne, America's first representative assembly was convened in a.d. 1611. At that first assembly was an elected servant representing the settlers at Flowerdew Hundred up the James River, named John Jefferson. Hmm, that family name sounds familiar! (Read on below on the Son-day, 22 October a.d. 2006 entry to see that name reappear nearly 200 years later.)

Yorktown Victory Fireworks - almost like the sparkle of her eyes

The fireworks at the Yorktown Victory (in Jesus) Celebration were sparkling and magnificent...

But so were the sparkling excitement in the eyes of the many thousands of Americans and French who attended.

One lovely lady whose eyes were sparkling watched the fireworks from near the Customs House of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was Amy Nichole of Utah, via New York City where she has studied at the Fashion Institute to create Custom

Oh, by the way, in a.d. 1763, age 31 - before a man "shrinks" from advanced age, George Washington wrote his tailor in London, Charles Lawrence, saying: "Prepare me a suit of clothes for a man of my height - to wit, six feet high..." (so GW debunks the myth of most historians that George Washington was 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 3.5 inches tall.)

The lesson to be learned is that physical height is not the measure of a man, tiny Jamey Madison, like Washington, was a "Giant" of a man, two men primarily responsible for the Miracle in Philadelphia, the Political Revolution that George Washington led after the Military Revolution was won at Yorktown.

Become a "Giant of a Man", learn so to defend and protect "this Constitution".

Be "Revolutionary", build up on the past for a better future.

I am glad to see we are in agreement, to a substantial degree.

My position is that as officers commissioned by Congress, we are leaders of the Navy, not followers of whim or whimsy, and as leaders we have a duty to do what is right, not that which is popular, however popular the current Navy Jack flag may be, it is flying due to historical lack of awareness of the truth.

So the logical corollary is that how ever popular the Fake Snake Navy Jack Flag may be, it is our duty to remove it if it is false, which is amply demonstrated it is "fake" by historical research by men such as Fowler in 1976, Clark in 1960, and RADM Preble in 1880.

I would with pleasure join with you and Ambassador Middendorf to write a letter to the Secretary of the Navy asking for a return to the Union Jack.

I would prefer to compose the letter to suggest to Secretary Winter to pose the option of selecting the Tree of Liberty Navy Flag, or return to the Union Jack.

Might we agree to compose this letter right away, before this years Navy Birthday, so to be a birthday gift of Truth to our beloved best Navy in the world?

Hometown Paper for Washington and Lee shows GW

Well night a month after the Labor Day visit to campus, the aide to GW returned to Washington and Lee University, named for the two rebel Generals related by a marriage of a great granddaughter, on Monday, 2 October a.d. 2006 after a visit to Washington, DC to meet President George W. (and hear a few words from him, "You don't look like you know how to operate that thing." as I tried to shoot him with a digital, spy sized camera owned by an Air Force Flight Nurse)...

...and Washington, VA to see where George W. surveyed the town in a.d. 1749, and to visit the great and good folks the Longyears at their Fairlea Farms Bed and Breakfast, ...

... this visit to Washington and Lee was after the Labor Day visit of "GW" to the lovely Lee Chapel on the beautiful campus of Washington and Lee University which was when and where GW had the privilege of making the acquaintance of Mrs. Margaret Samdahl in the Book Store and Gift Shop of the Lee Chapel,...

...and the pleasure of introducing her to the local author, Frank Grizzard, Jr., who by Divine Providence he and GW were brought together while standing outside the Chapel, so to ask her to carry Mr. Grizzard's book on Washington's Prayers in her book store, "The Ways of Providence: Religion and George Washington". She now has the book for sale in her nice book shop.

(See an entry below for a lengthy book review of his book on GW's prayers, but a friend at church, Dean Stone, summed it up well, "Tell people to read the Appendix essay by Rev. Burk FIRST, next read Grizzard's opinions, and finish by reading Washington's prayers that are in the middle. Then decide for yourself whether Burk or Grizzard is right, whether the Prayers are in the penmanship of Washington." Pretty fine advice (even if a bit elaborated by the aide to GW), thank you Dean, I will do, and have now done, as you advise, with such wise advice, maybe you ought to be a Dean at Washington and Lee or other university. By the way, might Dean also advise that you go to college for knowledge, and as GW did, go to God in prayer for wisdom?)

(And you might want to take a day trip to go by the Washington and Lee campus, the Lee Chapel, and her book store to meet the fine lady Mrs. Samdahl and buy Mr. Grizzard's controversial but beneficial book, or call her at 540.458.8095 to purchase over the phone.)

Anyway, the very helpful Mrs. Samdahl mentioned that the local paper had a photo of GW in an issue on the Labor Day Parade, so as the loyal aide to GW, I went by to buy one.

While the photo in the Roanoke Times and the Washington Post showed GW with George Allen, Senator and former Governor of Virginia, this scan of the newspaper page shows GW with Governor Tim Kaine, former Mayor of Richmond, where there is a statue of Richmond inside the capitol by Houdon, and outside the capitol, on a horse high atop a monument column. Look for the video of the GW presentation at the Library of Virginia on George Washington's Birthday, and that has a portion showing the "equestrian statue" of Washington.

And in the photo above, General Washington is speaking with a One Star and a Four Star General, but in a.d. 1976, Congress passed a law that makes Washington now a Six Star General, so GW outranks both Generals, COMBINED! (smiles).

Good thing the photographer Jonathan McBride knows how to operate HIS camera so you can see the photograph above of three generals greeting one another at the Labor Day Parade.

President George W. with Major Hemby speaks to Aide of GW...

After a speech by President George W. to the Reserve Officers' Association on Friday, 29 September anno domini 2006, the aide to the first "President George W." was asked by the Air Force Flight Nurse Major Hemby to take her little digital camera, akin to a "spy camera" and snap a shot of her shaking hands with the President.

The aide to "President George W." framed the shot, pressed the shutter button, yet the shutter did not click.

At this defining moment in an amateur (very amateur) photographer's life, the equipment did not seem to be working correctly.

The aide to the first "President George W." showed a worried look on his face, when President George W. said, "You don't look like you know how to operate that thing."

The only answer that could be made, is "You're right."

Then the shutter snapped, and the shot was made.

Notice however that the focus of the photo, the handshake is not shown, but at least two folk are having a good laugh at the photographer.

However, in this crop of the shot, you see that the Secret Service agent behind the President has a much different expression, like "Boy oh boy, some folks can't even push a button correctly..."

Now you see why General George W. has many aides, some who can handle words, and others, pictures.

General Washington Revolutionaries in Alabama...Polishing up to give the boot to federal judges?

Chief Justice Roy Moore was the primary "Special Speaker". Moore was elected by the power of the people, and wrongly removed by judicial fiat, that is to say by "bad behavior" that should rightly have resulted in a federal judge being subject to a Bill of Impeachment by an elected servant of the people, a Congressman.

Over six years since these two leaders of America met in his county judge's courtroom and chambers to see his hand carved Ten Commandments in the county courtroom, before he was elected by the people to serve them, not the high muckety-mucks, and together to Pray for America, before Judge Moore apologized for having to leave to attend his son's baseball game. The "father of His country" full well understands the joys and duties of being a "Super Dad".

Chris Christian, of Auburn, Alabama, President of CHEF, adds a smile between the smiles of Roy Moore shaking hands with "General George Washington".

Since the founding of our American Republic there have been 17 successful Impeachments, 2 successful Presidential Impeachments against Andrew Johnson and William Clinton.

Neither Impeached President was convicted in the Senate Trial.

When the word "Impeachment" is used, most Americans think of Clinton, or Johnson, and say
"Why Bother? Impeachment never works!".

Impeachment by the House of Representatives is like an Indictment by a Grand Jury. Many "ordinary citizens" are Indicted, but then not Convicted; indeed some are not even Prosecuted after the Indictment.

Some United States Congressman, especially one from Alabama, should have done this DUTY under this Constitution for the United States of America by filing a Bill of Impeachment against U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson for "Bad Behavior".

the judicial magistracy is certainly one of the most valuable of
the modern improvements in the practice of government."

The same could be said, or should be, about the failure of the Representative to exercise the power of Impeachment to maintain the balance of powers between the respective branches of government. Most lawyers will squeal "Separation of Powers" as a way to ensure 'supremacy' of the Judiciary branch from which they derive their income and their power over other citizen's lives.

"The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism.... It should be the highest ambition of every American to extend his views beyond himself, and to bear in mind that his conduct will not only affect himself, his country, and his immediate posterity; but that its influence may be co-extensive with the world, and stamp political happiness or misery on ages yet unborn." --George Washington

The bad behavior of federal judges is stamping political misery on the current Age in America, and on ages yet unborn, and due to the less than supreme Court of the United States, American's who will never be born because the "High Court" has given permission for mothers with doctors to kill unborn Americans in the womb.

This Constitution does not say the crime of Bad Behavior against We the People has been committed, it merely says there is sufficient merit to the allegations that a trial should be heard, so for a Public Servant the Impeachment sets the Trial in motion, the same as an Indictment does for the average American.

And in an Impeachment, according to this Constitution, the trial is held in the United States Senate, which serves at the Jury of Peers, other Public Servants, for the Public Servant Judge whose Bad Behavior, including his Biases against Faith matters, invited, no rightly REQUIRED, the Impeachment, that is if the requirement to do one's duty as stipulated in this Constitution is still operative in the U.S. Congress.

Eleven of the 17 impeachments have been against federal judges. Seven of the 11, or 63 per cent have been successful in conviction and removing the judge for his bad behavior. Another judge resigned rather than face a trial in the Senate, or 72 per cent success rate in Federal Judge Impeachments. More are needed! Maybe even "way more"!

NOTE 1: Chief Justice Moore was NOT impeached, or convicted. Contrary to law, his rights, and the rights of the people who elected him were violated by non-accountable government operatives, including federal judges who exhibited bad behavior against the people who freely elected Roy Moore as their Chief Justice.

It was a travesty. It is a tragedy, a tragedy for the State of Alabama, and for the United States of America. It was a blatant exercise of Political Correctness, that is Political Corruptness, run amok, a power grab by federal judges, the definition of bad behavior.

Yet so many of We The People have been "brain-washed" believe that if a bad behaving judge says a law is un-Constitutional then without thinking or questioning, too many act like lemmings and accept his flawed decision. Thomas Jefferson warned against such thinking.

NOTE 2: A Chief Justice of the New York supreme Court was Impeached by a 22 year old principled, freshman legislator named Theodore Roosevelt, in anno domini 1880. That established Roosevelt as the principal leader of the Republican Party in New York.

Nine years before as a 13 year old boy, "Teddy" saw the Presbyterian Pastor Charles Parkhurst rally first the Press, and then the People to vote in new legislative and executive branch servants in the city government, who then Impeached many corrupt city judges, who were convicted, and properly, many of the corrupt judges were also jailed. Equal Justice for All!!

Contrary to what is taught in taxpayer funded government schools, federal judges are NOT, repeat NOT, appointed for LIFE. This Constitution for the United States of America Article III, Section 1, sentence 2 reads: "The Judges, both of the supreme and and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour, ..."

The action of the federal judge against Roy Moore, both when he served the people as a county judge, and after he was elected Chief Justice of the supreme Court of Alabama was "Bad Behavior" that properly warranted a "Bill of Impeachment" to be filed against the federal judge, that the House would determine if the errant (bad behavior) federal judge's behavior was bad enough for an impeachment trial. Constitution, Article I, Section 2, last sentence: "The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment."

Then in the Senate, would act as the "Jury", to decide on conviction of the judge, and removal from the bench. The description their responsibilities in Impeachment are described in this Constitution Article I, Section 3, last two paragraphs:

"The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And now Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present."

"Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law."

The most recent federal successful impeachment and conviction was of Nixon. That is to say, Judge Walter Nixon, in anno domini 1989. Two other judges were convicted in that time frame at the end of the Reagan second term, another great legacy of his Presidency. One was Alcee Hastings who ran for and was elected to Congress, and the liberal House member Andy Jacobs of Indiana recently bragged on C-SPAN about how he was proud of seating Hastings after the election, despite that seating Alcee Hastings was a violation of this clause of this Constitution.

Moore and "General Washington" met again after his talk for the first time since 7 March anno domini 2000, on the Millennium Year CROSSings: All Across America, Journey with Jesus, by George! Prayer Pilgrimage when the General traveled from the State Capital in Montgomery to Gadsden, Alabama to meet then Etowah County Judge Roy Moore, see his hand-carved Ten Commandments in his courtroom, then talk with, and pray with Judge Moore in his judge's chambers, before riding off to Tupelo, Mississippi to visit the American Family Association as the "father of His country', and onto the capital of Jackson, Mississippi, a later capital after the first capital of Mississippi that was named Washington...

"Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their countrymen..."

While Chief Justice Roy Moore and "General Washington" did not meet in Washington on 7 October a.d. 2003, GW did come out to support the Principled Patriot before the less than supreme Court.

[Oh, by the way, look how careful we Founding Fathers were, notice that the word "supreme" in "supreme Court..." in "this Constitution for the United States of America" is written in lower case, whereas in the Declaration of Independence where "Supreme Judge of the world" ("Supreme Judge" is to mean God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, Three in One), is written in Upper case, the latter indicates the God is the Supreme Judge over all, including over the supreme Court of the United States of America.]

While Nancy, and not Nancy Reagan, sang "these boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do..." they do need to have a true professional return them to their former glory and shine...

And while the General is "Down to Alabama" it appears if you look closely beside the boot there is not " a Banjo on my knee..." but rather a sword...

I have heard of country musical saws, but not musical swords... though a young, a less prudent Washington, in a battle in the French and Indian War, once wrote there is something lovely in the sound of a bullet whizzing by... (To understand GW's true meaning, consider the alternative, would prefer the sound of the bullet hitting you?) ...so might there be music to the sound of a sword swishing by your ear? (Remember the swoosh, swoosh of the Wilkinson Sword razor blades commercials during baseball games back in the last millennium...?)

The professional shoe shiner seen here, in the tradition of the valuable aide to General Washington, Billy Lee, is Mr. Thigpen, whose father was a Navy veteran, and proudly told of his son who is an Army Captain in Iraq.

The sign over Mr. Thigpen's shoulder, BJCC, is for the Birmingham - Jefferson Civic Center where you can go to meet him and get some polish in your life, adds spring to your step, and might even reflect the smile on your face!

Maybe "We, the People" need to polish up our boots, and give the boot to some federal judges!

A modern aide to General Washington, "Major" James Renwick Manship, Sr., served as a shoe shine boy at at George Washington Quarter per pair of shoes, from which earned income he was able to pay for 5 weeks of Boy Scout Camp in Covington, Georgia, that allowed him to quickly earn Boy Scout Merit Badges and earn Eagle Scout while still age 13, and the God and Country Award at age 14, back in the last century, yeah, even in the last Millennium when even in two years of a.d. 1988 and 1989, three federal judges got the "Boot"! Was that ever "Boot - iful"? America the Beautiful, indeed!

A scan of part of the print version of her nice article is also provided, that is where Amanda quotes the Director of the Cayce Museum, Leo Redmond, about "Lord Cornwallis" and "George Washington", and then quotes "George Washington" on how he got into "this business" of being "the father of His country". That paper version of the Star was mailed to "George" by "Martha", Martha Chavis, that is.

GW accepts Sword of Cornwallis in Surrender in league with Cayce Cadre

Local elected servants of South Carolina gather with citizens led by Leo Redmond, director of the Cayce Historical Museum, in advance of the Celebration of the 225th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Granby, 24 June anno domini 1781, at Cayce, South Carolina, a town that at the time was the principal commercial center in the Midlands, whereas Washington described Columbia as a patch of scrub and pine on his visit during his Southern Tour as President a decade later. Obviously, not in all things was George Washington's Vision for the Future prophetic.

Remember that in Charleston, Lincoln surrendered to the overwhelming force of his adversary, Clinton.

That is American hero and general, Benjamin Lincoln surrendered to British General Henry Clinton. Because of that, General George Washington thought "turn about is fair play" and so sent General Benjamin Lincoln, his Second in Command, to accept the surrender of the British Army at Yorktown.

Therefore, it was most fitting and proper that Charles, Lord Cornwallis, send his "Number Two", General O'Hara to surrender his sword to Lincoln at Yorktown. Yet ever the gentleman soldier, General Cornwallis graciously surrendered his sword to General Washington on this most auspicious occasion to honor the History of Cayce, South Carolina.

During the "Recent Unpleasantness" that locals describe as the "War of Northern Aggression" some Yankee soldiers broke off the end of the walking stick held by Washington, (as seen in the top left picture, behind General Washington's back) but the gentleman soldier, General Cornwallis offered his walking stick to General Washington to try to overcome, for a short time at least, the damage to America and all things American, of that later time in American History.

Just imagine, if every American had followed Washington's example and freed their slaves in their Last Will and Testament so to allow a gradual emancipation of the population to be assimilated into the economy of that time, so to avoid dislocation and even death by mass emancipation, then by 1850, or 1860 at the latest, there would have been no more slavery in America, and "Mr. Lincoln's War" would not have been fought, at least not for that reason.

And remember that William Wilberforce, who worked to eliminate slavery in the British Commonwealth was inspired in his actions by the words of the Founding Fathers in "this Constitution for the United States of America", the first national charter in the history of the world to have any limitation against slavery.

{Although Georgia, alone among the original thirteen states had in its original charter of anno domini 1732, also the year of Washington's birth, that two forms of slavery would not be allowed in the colony of Georgia, physical slavery, or "Slavery" as we know it today, and legal slavery. Originally lawyers were outlawed from Georgia because they cause "financial slavery" for citizens, and Georgia began as a debtors colony, men from Debtors' Prisons, imprisoned by laws and lawyers. Sadly, later, Georgia allowed both forms of Slavery.}

Do what you ask? You've heard our Constitution criticized because it did not abolish slavery then and there, but it did say in Article I, Section 9 that
"The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight..."

This clause was a compromise, for 20 years the Slave Trade would be allowed as legal to continue. But not necessarily for the "benefit" of the Southern States. Remember that one state boycotted the Constitutional Convention. Tiny Rhode Island, a "Northern State" did so, in part because from 1720 on to 1808, between 60 and 80 per cent of the American slave trade was carried in ships sailing out of tiny Rhode Island, slavery was a significant contributor to the economy of Rhode Island.

But look more carefully at the words used by the Founding Fathers: "Importation of such Persons...". The Founding Fathers did NOT use the words "slave", or "bond-servant", or "chattel", they used the word "Persons". The Constitution recognizes the "Personhood" of the black brothers in the hallowed words of this Miracle in Philadelphia.

The wise men who were the Founding Fathers elected George Washington to be the President at the Constitutional Convention in a.d. 1787. In a.d. 1786, Washington wrote to John Francis Mercer of Maryland saying, "There is not a man living who more desires to see the abolition of slavery than I do, but it must be done in gradual, peaceful means through legislation."

A year later, in the legislation of the Supreme Law of the Land, was planted the means for a gradual, peaceful abolition of slavery. The Founding Fathers believed that the abolishment of the Importation of Slaves would gradually end the Institution of Slavery, and likely would have done just that, except Technology intervened to make mince meat of those worthy aims.

In a.d. 1791, the Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin, that revived the failing economy of cotton farming, and so "King Cotton" was born. In the years after, most of the slaves in the northern states were "sold South" to the areas where "Cotton was King", and so the inspired dream ("I have a dream...") of the Founding Fathers to gradually eliminate slavery became a distant fading vision.

A few months before, on George Washington's Birthday, 22 February anno domini 2006, also in Richmond at the Library of Virginia, George Washington LIVES! gave his rendition of the story of the Making of George Washington as a boy up to becoming a fine young man. A few weeks later at the Alabama Home School convention in Birmingham, GW Lives! had copies of the wonderful book "The Making of George Washington" by Congressional Medal of Honor recipient BGEN William H. Wilbur that tells much the same story in the printed word.

Many in that Library of Virginia audience were at the Richmond Convention Center to see Little Bear tell his wonderful stories of George Washington, so the home school scholars got a double dose of GW, and with this picture are even seeing double!

These two "living portraits" of George Washington were anything but silent stone statues as they compared notes on the real George Washington they both so much admire and both feel so privileged to portray to audiences near and far, all across America, from Sea to Shining Sea, in 121 cities, towns and villages, 7 rivers and streams, 8 mountains, 9 to 19 colleges and universities, 10 lakes to 33 Washington Counties from Washington County Maine, to Washington, District of Columbia, to the first capital of Texas, Washington on the Brazos, to Washington State, the only state named for a President, America is the "Land of Washington"!

George Washington - Man of the Millennium - Millennium Year Tour of America!

In the Millennium Year of anno domini 2000, a journey of over 30,033 miles crossing America from Sea to Shining Sea was begun and completed in a five month period from Washington's Birthday, 22 February to twenty days beyond America's Birthday, 4 July.

The journey was called:
"The CROSSings: All Across America, Journey (with Jesus), by George! A Prayer Pilgrimage.

The Prayers of George Washington were prayed kneeling in the Capitol or on the grounds, morning and evening, in or at each of the 48 Continental State Capitols, and at least once at each of the 33 counties named for George Washington, as well as at many of the 121 towns, villages, and cities named for George Washington, all across America, this Land that is rightly called, "The Land of Washington".

There is an Op-Ed in The Washington Times in December a.d. 1999, that gives a description of the "Geography of America, by George!" that gives a hint at the immense impact that George Washington had on the formation of America -- and still has in influencing modern America.

The incredible "Journey, by George!" of over 30,033 miles was a "post-graduate" education to the "Nth Degree" beyond and above any Ivory Tower education degree in learning the full measure of the man and George Washington. The information acquired in this "Real World Classroom" was "PHD - Piled Higher and Deeper" than is done in any college classroom.

Other than a certificate from William and Mary College to be the County Surveyor for Culpeper, George Washington never received a degree from college. However, a professor at Harvard, Albert Bushnell Hart, once wrote: "George Washington was the best educated man of his time." "Best" means better than the other Founding Fathers like Adams and Jefferson.

June 24, 1776

My dearest life and love,

You have hurt me, I know not how much, by the insinuation in your last, that my letters to you have lately been less frequent, because I have less concern for you. The suspicion is most unjust; -- may I not add, it is most unkind! Have we lived, now almost a score of years, in the closest and dearest conjugal intimacy to so little purpose, that, on appearance only of inattention to you, and which you might have accounted for in a thousand ways more natural and more probable, you should pitch upon that single motive which alone is injurious to me?

I have not, I own, wrote so often to you as I wished, and as I ought. But think of my situation, and then ask your heart, if I be without excuse.

We are not, my dearest, in circumstances the most favourable to our happiness; but let us not, I beseech thee, idly make them worse, by indulging suspicions and apprehensions which minds in distress are too apt to give way to.

I never was, as you have often told me, even in my better and more disengaged days, so attentive to the little punctilios of friendship, as, it maybe, became me; but my heart tells me, there was never a moment in my life, since I first knew you, in which I did not cleave and cling to you with the warmest affections… (continues…)

Now for the rest of the story…

The circumstances of which Washington writes were he was in the midst of moving the American Army from Boston to New York to prepare for the assault of 30,000 British troops! Ever the loving husband, might General Washington have had a few things to distract his attentions?

And the British were intercepting, and in this case publishing in the newspaper, Washington’s letters, so even while he was a loving husband writing home, we now know why Martha was not receiving his letters. Could this letter or others like it be why Martha burned near all their letters after he died?

Yet most important is how did Martha respond to her husband’s gentle chiding?
A “Lady Washington” song (recorded by Captain George Bush) tells that Martha left Mount Vernon and went to be with her beloved husband George at his winter encampment headquarters. While there Martha darned the socks, mended the uniforms, and nursed the sick soldiers. Martha showed signs of becoming a Biblical curse – “a nagging woman” (Proverbs 19:13, 21:9), yet instead became a Proverbs 31 “First Lady”!

This letter was discovered in the Rare Books Room of the Library of Congress on 12 February a.d. 2003, by George Washington scholar and historic interpreter James Renwick Manship, Sr., two days before he gave a “Love of Country” talk for Saint Valentine’ Day dinner.

American Indian Museum George Washington Statue at Smithsonian

American Indian Museum of the Smithsonian Institution has in an alcove overlooking the Washington Mall and the top of the Washington Monument is an impressive sculpture of Washington with three American Indians.

There is a description of the great service of the Oneida Indian people to the American Army and the symbolism of the many features of the sculpture on the wall beside the creation, that is read to accompany the visual survey.

Most attractive to me was the image of the little Indian girl standing behind George Washington, looking up at him and the Indian Chief, two men who protect her.

As the father of Robert E. Lee, Congressman and General Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee said in his 26 December a.d. 1799 eulogy of Washington in the Congress"

"First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen, he was second to none..."

And as this website says above, Second to none including Lincoln, and Reagan, both of whom were wise enough to learn from Washington, and guide their actions as elected servants from the man who closed his letters with the words:

"Your most humble & obedient servant,".

Might our elected servants, and appointed servants such as judges, in all levels of government today learn that lesson from Washington, that each is a servant of the people, not the ruler of the people?

Washington and Lincoln

George Washington is so little taught in the modern public schools,

despite where by law passed by Congress in the 1950s, a picture of George Washington is to appear in the school if the school is to continue to receive federal funds,

and despite the fact that in 1982, President Reagan said,

"The most sublime picture in American History is of George Washington on his knees..."

and sadly, where now George Washington is too often vilified as a "brutal slaveholder"

by some teachers despite his unreported actions to bring an end to slavery,

...his letters to all the governors after the War for Independence to give emancipation and a plot of land to blacks who fought for America's liberty, and nine of 13 did so,

...his own efforts to have his people leave Mount Vernon to earn a living, land, and Liberty on his lands in the Ohio Territory,

...and including his personal example of freeing his slaves in his Last Will and Testament,

while his heirs provided a non-government funded pension plan for the aged and infirmed for over 33 years!

Yet all this and more is ignored, while Lincoln is deified by professors and educators as the "Great Emancipator",

so sometimes students try to taunt me with the question,

"What do you think of Lincoln?" with emphasis on "LINCOLN".

I reply,

"Lincoln? Lincoln was a great patriot. I thought so much of Lincoln that I named him to receive the surrender of the British at Yorktown!"

When they look at me dumbfounded, I continue.

"Yes, my close friend, Major General Benjamin Lincoln, my number two, my second in command."

"You look confused. Did you mean Levi Lincoln, Attorney General to President Jefferson?"

"Or the man who in 1867, patented the "Wheel of Life", or the motion picture camera, William Lincoln?"

"Or did you mean the man who invented the Lincoln automobile, Henry Selden? Henry was the son of George Seldon, who said no to Abraham Lincoln when he was asked to be Vice President in the election of 1864, and so would have become President when Lincoln died."

But that begs the true history question, "Who killed Lincoln?"

Have you been taught "Southern sympathizer and actor John Wilkes Booth"?

It is true Booth shot Lincoln (President, not General Lincoln), but likely Booth did not kill Lincoln.

What is the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth, So Help Me God, as a witness pledges in court under Oath?

The muzzle velocity of Booth's small gun was about the same as a modern CO2 pellet gun, the bullet did not have the force to exit the skull on the far side, so the bullet remained in the brain.

Is that the definition of a "splitting headache"?

An American Heritage magazine article years ago did an excellent study detailing the many soldiers who lived for decades who got shot but lived with minnie balls and much larger bullets in the brain.

The little bullet in Lincoln's brain did not kill him, the doctors who time after time stuck their fingers, pencils, and other tools into the wound and into Lincoln's brain killed him.

With their trying unsuccessfully to extract the small bullet, the doctors killed Lincoln by consequently causing the fluids to drain away rather than the body to seal the wound and begin the process of healing, and by filthy fingers introducing septic shock from infections.

John Wilkes Booth only shot Lincoln with a small size bullet. Lincoln likely may have survived based on the experience of soldiers who survived bullets in the brain in "Mr. Lincoln's War", the War Between the States.

And remember the story of someone who later asked the deceased president's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, about her recollections of the performance that night at the Ford's Theater:

"So Madam, how did you enjoy the show?" or words to that effect.

Congress later declined to provide Mrs. Lincoln a widow's pension, some saying she was involved in one way or another with the assassination. Earlier, during the war, opponents claimed she was a southern sympathizer, and in a surprise appearance before the Committee on the Conduct of the War of the Congress, President Lincoln personally testified on behalf of her loyalty.

Her eldest son Robert had her legally committed to an insane asylum in Batavia, Illinois in 1875 to gain control of the family estate. She considered Robert's action a betrayal, and never forgave her son by the time she died in Springfield, Illinois in 1882.

(Write me with comments to include the exact quote to Mrs. Lincoln and your source, or other information about Mrs. Lincoln after Lincoln died.)

And all across America, at the Presidio of San Francisco, which was first established in 1776 under the Flag of Spain, Mexico in 1822, and the came under the Flag of the United States in 1848, when Abraham Lincoln served his one term as a United States Congressman from Illinois elected in 1846, and on July 4th, 1848 spoke on the rights of the states to secede and form a Confederacy, but he was referring to the right of the northern states to secede and form a Northern Confederacy in protest to the War with Mexico and the admission of Texas as a state.

Wistfully Lincoln wished John Quincy Adams could have served as his Confederacy's first President, but Adams had died earlier that year on the day after George Washington's Birthday, on 23 February. John Quincy Adams had a son who he named George Washington Adams, as John Hancock named a son George Washington Hancock, and General LaFayette, a hero along with General Lincoln at Yorktown, named his son George Washington LaFayette, and his daughter "Virginia".

And so as America's favorite radio commentator Paul Harvey says,

"And now, for the rest of the story."

In view of the Golden Gate Bridge on the Presidio of San Francisco two streets intersect, Washington and Lincoln, named not for the Presidents, but for General Washington and General Lincoln.

The Poet Laureate of the American Revolution was Phillis Wheatley, a black slave woman in Boston. She wrote a poem praising General George Washington, of which part is provided on this page 44 of the ebook PRAYER WARRIOR Washington.

In November a.d. 2003, GW traveled to New Hampshire, and to promote discussion on this Constitution for the United States of America in the Presidential Primary, "registered" as a Candidate, on the provision of In Forma Pauperis, to get Petition signatures from each county rather than pay the filing fee of $1000. The Secretary of State rejected an IFP Order by a Federal Judge, requiring a IRS income tax return, that were stored in files back in Virginia, so "General Washington" who lead one war against taxation, declined to submit to submission of a tax document!

Another wonderful event in the heart of America, a small town patriotic parade, this time in the lovely hamlet north of Baltimore, called Mount Washington, Maryland, where George Washington gave Maryland "George Washington" Quarters to the children. That is worth a bit more than just 25 cents to a child.

New Book from UVA on GW Prayers ---- "The Ways of Providence"

Some years back, in November anno domini 2001, "George Washington" when visiting his former Minister of State "Thomas Jefferson" in Charlottesville for the Governor Jefferson Thanksgiving Festival sponsored by Providence Foundation, took some time to go and visit his old papers at the University of Virginia George Washington Papers Project as you can see in the accompanying painting in light.

At that time, GW met Mr. Frank Grizzard, Jr., and discussed briefly the Prayers of George Washington from his early days as a Man doing GW - God's Will in this world.

Recently, in a.d. 2005, Mr. Grizzard has published a book on the GW Prayers. This journal entry is a commentary, or book review, of that new book on GW.

The short of this review is that Frank Grizzard, Jr. has done a good deed with this book in showing the images of the penmanship of powerful passionate prayers purported to be penned by a 20 year old George Washington.

Second of value is the fine article written in anno domini 1907 by Rev. W. Herbert Burk, founder of the Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge that in effect anticipates and effectively refutes the negative analysis of the author Grizzard.

Yet give Grizzard much credit for "intellectual honesty", for using the word "cursory", meaning "shallow", to describe an examination comparing Washington penmanship samples from age 20 and age 22; and for including an essay under the covers of his book that seems to persuasively refute his negative analysis. How many other authors would include a writing of another author that debates their own position, and in the eyes and mind of this Washington scholar, effectively refutes his own written conclusion? Grizzard obviously likes a lively debate in the minds of his readers.

Still further, while the author Grizzard seems to want to deny the authenticity of the prayers being "Washington", he fails to present to the reader a letter from an expert on George Washington's penmanship, which experts have noted changed in style over a period of years.
Read on below to see a copy of a letter from a penmanship expert who evaluates documents for Mount Vernon, and his professional opinion is the "handwriting" is characteristic of George Washington, which of course, refutes the position of the author Grizzard in this book. And what about the professional opinions of the penmanship experts a century and more ago that also said the prayers were penned by George Washington?

Even consider that the penned prayers could indeed be "Washington Prayers" but not composed, or even penned by George Washington, but rather penned by his older brother Lawrence, his father Gus, his grandfather Lawrence, or his great great grandfather John, or even back to his great-great-great-grandfather, Rev. Lawrence Washington. One review on the internet states that the prayers derive from the time of King James that would correspond with some of the years of the life of Rev. Lawrence Washington.

So the prayers may have been greatly treasured by George Washington's because the prayers had been penned by a relative and passed down to the young George, or indeed, the prayers may be both composed by George Washington and in his penmanship.

The long version of this book review is provided below.

Years ago, just before Thanksgiving anno domini 2001, when GW traveled to Charlottesville for the wonderful annual Governor Jefferson Thanksgiving Festival where folks from past and present gather to celebrate the Governor's Proclamation of Thanksgiving to God and to re-enact the raid of the British, and the Virginia "Paul Revere" ride of Captain Jack Jouett that allowed the Legislature and the Governor to escape capture during the year a.d. 1781 before the British were able to be trapped and defeated in Yorktown, he, GW that is, visited the University of Virginia Library where many of his old letters and papers are being stored and catalogued for safekeeping and publishing.

That George Washington Papers Project at Mr. Jefferson's university, the University of Virginia, is liberally endowed by the National Endowment for the Humanities in Washington. For the most part fitting, though liberally or liberal has a connotation that while it fits well with current spending patterns of Washington, does not fit well with George Washington.

During that visit to the Alderman Library at the University in a.d. 2001, shown by the photo, I met Mr. Frank E. Grizzard, Jr. who was a most personable and rather well informed academic working at the GW Papers Project; I removed from my coat pocket close to my heart the prayers of George Washington, that he titled "Daily Sacrifice", and if you read the first of those twice daily prayers you will learn the historical relevance of the title that the young George Washington chose.

I remember how I selected one of "my" letters and read it with the passion its elegant phrases deserved, and the two staff members thought I was reciting words of Washington from memory. When I showed them the words on the paper before me, they were a bit surprised, being there in Charlottesville, home of Thomas Jefferson, there is a natural bias to think of eloquence in writing as being a near monopoly of their local favorite son. Now they became more aware that there are golden nuggets in the tremendous mass of the wise words of Washington.

I then remember how they showed me the three index books for the writings of Washington, Jefferson and Madison. The index book for Washington was about 1 and 1/4 inch thick, whereas the one for Jefferson was about 1/2 inch thick and the one for Madison about 3/8 of an inch thick.

Using what my Advanced Public Speaker Institute friend Tom Antion calls "the thud factor", Washington as a writer carries more "weight" that either Jefferson or Madison.

And if you don't take my friend Tom's word for it (Tom Antion, not Tom Jefferson), listen to Noah, America's Educator, Noah Webster, who wrote in a.d. 1828,

"Literary power and statesmanship were combined in George Washington, the greatest political leader of his time and also the greatest intellectual and moral force of the Revolutionary period."

"...Few people realize that he was also the most voluminous writer of his period, and his principals of government have had more influence on the development of the American commonwealth than those of any other man."

Thud factor indeed!

And from Washington's Farewell Address, a document once studied in Civics classes in America's schools for his wisdom and prophetic vision for America's future, which was issued on the ninth anniversary of the signing of this Constitution, the 17th of September in the Year of Our Lord 1796, and printed two days later on the 19th, Washington wrote:

"Of all the disposition and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports."

Once back in a.d. 1998 or so, I discovered on the George Washington Papers Project web site an analysis of the books in the library of General Washington, also a Planter, Surveyor, and Vestryman, numbering about 1000 volumes, that 40 books were on military matters, and an equal number on faith matters, with fewer numbers in other areas of his work. The conclusion could be derived that Churchman Washington was equal to General Washington. In recent visits, I have not been able to find that same gold nugget of information.

As is said on the National Archives building in Washington, "The Past is Prologue."

The prologue above sets the stage for the present entry about the new book (a.d. 2005) by Frank E. Grizzard, Jr. with the imprint Mariner Publisher, Buena Vista and Charlottesville, Virginia.

The book title is "THE WAYS OF PROVIDENCE Religion & George Washington".

The dedication page is charming, dedicated to his children and citing the Bible from Joel 1:3:
"Tell your children of it,
and let your children tell their children,
and their children another generation."

There is a great deal of "intellectual honesty" in this small volume, for Grizzard includes an address titled "WASHINGTON'S PRAYERS" from the Reverend W. Herbert Burk, who founded the magnificent Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, that anticipates the ever typical reaction of skepticism and even cynicism of "the academy" to matters of faith.

When discussing the veracity of Washington's Prayers, Rev. Burk writes and Mr. Grizzard repeats on page 68 of his volume: "Dr. Lyman Abbott and Prof. Upham attributed them to Washington. In writing to the New York publishers, Dr. Abbott said:

"An age whose virtues are philanthropic, whose defect is lack of spiritual perception, and whose characteristic vice is irreverance, can hardly fail to receive benefit from the publication of the prayers of one honored by men of all faiths, and even of none, as is George Washington."

Yet back on page 51, sadly Mr. Grizzard seems to succumb to the desire for acceptance by the intellectual elite of "the academy" -- "whose defect is lack of spiritual perception".

Grizzard writes: "The catalogue of the sale was prepared by Philadelphia auctioneer Stan V. Henkels, who asserted that the manuscript was not only in Washington's own handwriting, written when the future Father of His Country was about twenty years of age, but that Washington even composed the prayers himself. Both claims are patently false."

A few lines below, he writes: "...others continue to challenge its authenticity. Tens of thousands of genuine Washington manuscripts have survived to the present, including many from the youthful Washington, and even a cursory comparison of the prayer book with a genuine Washington manuscript reveals that they are not the same handwriting. (See illustrations.)"

From Noah Webster's a.d.1828 Dictionary we learn the precise meaning of the word "Cursory" includes superficial and careless.

CURSORY, a. [L. See Course.]

1. Running; hasty; slight; superficial; careless; not with close attention; as a cursory reading; a cursory view.

Granted a "cursory" comparison reveals differences, but also reveals similarities.

Mr. Grizzard is not likely a penmanship expert as were several experts that Mr. Henkels referred the Washington manuscript for examination before the auction in a.d 1891.

Neither is this author a penmanship expert and so not knowing the authenticity of these prayers in the penmanship of George Washington took them back in a.d. 1997 when I first discovered them to an antique documents dealer in Old Town Alexandria who serves Mount Vernon as an evaluator of Washington writings that come available, and after losing a previous letter, went back to him in July a.d. 2005, whereupon he wrote for me a brief note on his letterhead saying,

"This letter is to attest to the fact the handwriting shown in copy in the prayers of George Washington, is written in the hand of George Washington c. 1752. and is typical of his script. Gary Eyler July 5th, 2005."

Again to Grizzard's credit, on page 67, he includes the part of Rev. Burks quite insightful and thorough essay on the issue:

"It is a well-known fact that Washington between the years of 1755 and 1763 changed his hand from the angular to the round formation."

If such be the case in an eight year period as a young adult of 23 to 31 years of age, certainly it is fair to allow that the younger George Washington's handwriting would likely vary when he was 20 or thereabouts.

With a period of time since reading the book so to allow time for consideration to constrain my complaints upon initial reading, I now am quite happy to recommend Mr. Grizzard's book as a very valuable addition to the literature about the faith of George Washington.

My recommendation is not so much for Mr. Grizzard's analysis in his writings, which I find faulty, but for the wonderful service he has rendered by reprinting the prayers in the penmanship of George Washington, and the fine essay by Rev. Herbert Burk that anticipated nearly a century before this book was published many of the arguments the author makes, and persuasively refutes those arguments.

In addition, the old saying "You can't tell a book by its cover." does not apply to this cover which has a striking image of a sculpture titled "General Washington Praying at Valley Forge" by Donald DeLue, the same sculptor who created the magnificent 9 foot bronze statue at Freedom's Foundation at Valley Forge.

If this book gets shelf space enough for the cover to be seen, it will be a good seller, because as President Reagan said in a.d. 1982,
"The most sublime picture in American History is of George Washington on his knees..."

So why do I find faulty the analysis of one who is so highly regarded as a Washington expert if the reader is to read the back cover with scholar's comments from a previous book "George! A Guide to All Things Washington" from which this smaller volume is reportedly derived?

I could be laborious and detail several points, but I will limit myself to only two.

On page 52, Grizzard writes:

"...prayers continue to be disseminated under Washington's name, thanks to their publication in the early twentieth century by William Herbert Burk (1867 -1933) as Washington's Prayers (Norristown, Pennsylvania, 1907) and later republication by William Jackson Johnstone (1867-1933) in George Washington The Christian (New York and Cincinnati, 1919).

Here Mr. Grizzard reveals that he has fallen into the trap of far too many historians who repeat what prior historians have written. He writes "William Jackson Johnstone". I discovered when in May a.d. 2000, when I was traveling the country as GW and sought to learn more about the author of George Washington the Christian, I learned at the Minnesota State Library that this just so happens to be wrong.

Johnstone was a professor in the Saint Paul, Minnesota area. But Johnstone was not Johnson, the author. Two amazingly similarly names of men both involved in Christian ministry and as professors in the Saint Paul area, but two different men.

William Jackson Johnson was also a professor in the Saint Paul area who taught at Macalester College, and whose home where the book was likely written I went to see and photograph. By the way, Johnson was born in Davies County, Indiana where the county seat is Washington, Indiana.

(Sadly in the storms of life and Hurricane Isabel that flooded my former home in Mount Vernon, my video of that Johnson home and my visit to the parks and schools of Washington, Indiana in the Millennium Year of a.d. 2000 has been lost.)

Unless an historian did like I did and went to Saint Paul and pored through the newspapers to learn about the difference between Johnstone and Johnson, it is a likely error, easily to be made.

However, Grizzard writes to finish his paragraph of page 52: "It is hoped that this republication of Burk's work with the facsimiles will help to dispel the notion that the manuscript of the prayers are in Washington's own handwriting."

That is half of what he writes on the previous page, where he also disputes "...that Washington even composed the prayers himself."

And I do not know if Washington did or did not pen these prayers.

And neither does Mr. Grizzard, or the gaggle of other academics "whose defect is lack of spiritual perception, and whose characteristic vice is irreverance," as Burk wrote so prophetically near a century ago.

Too often "historians" are more properly labeled "hysteria-ns" who run like a pack of hyenas barking at the Moon God rather than baying and obeying the call of the God of Light, Jesus.

But I do know that I grew up in the same denomination as did George Washington, the Church of England, or in America after the Revolution, the Protestant Episcopal Church. I served as an altar boy and near learned the Book of Common Prayer by heart, and I see many phrases in Washington's prayers that are the same as prayers in the Book of Common Prayer.

Sadly, when I first discovered these prayers of Washington in the Princeton Theological School library in a.d. 1995 after being unable to find them in the Library of Congress.

(I did find the Washington Prayers in the Library of Congress in a.d. 1998, when I discovered Johnson's first and second printings of George Washington The Christian that had been misfiled in the music section of the library's holdings with a song by the same name.)

I obtained several copies and gave the Washington Prayers to two bishops of the Diocese of Virginia Episcopal Church, and a bishop of the break away Anglican Catholic Church, asking each man to review them and tell me from where the prayers derived.

None of the three bishops cared enough to respond to my request, which suggests to me they too are infected with the mindset of the modern seminary, which mirrors the gaggle of other academics "whose defect is lack of spiritual perception, and whose characteristic vice is irreverance," as Rev. Burk wrote so prophetically near a century ago.

So I am preparing separately an "annotated" edition of the Prayers of George Washington citing the King James Version of the Holy Bible chapter and verse, and the Book of Common Prayer of the time of the youthful George Washington.

And as an adult, I have come to read the Holy Bible much more than as a child, and so see many passages in Washington's prayers that are taken either directly from scripture, or with minor alteration.

Now with that aside, I consider the worst issue is where Mr. Grizzard abuses the soft spoken words of a lady, the "step-grand-daughter" Eleanor "Nelly" Parke Custis Lewis, grand daughter of Martha Washington. Martha of course was the wife of George Washington. On page 47 in italics, Mr. Grizzard writes "Note that Nelly says she never witnessed Washington's private devotions."

Thank God, Mr. Grizzard has the intellectual honesty to have included in this same book's covers a refutation of his own commentary. Refer to page 61, where the essay by Rev. Burk addresses the same point, where he continues her quotation, "I never witnessed his private devotions. I never inquired about them. I should have thought it the greatest heresy to doubt his firm belief in Christianity. His life, his writings, prove he was a Christian..."

The next paragraph says, "What Eleanor Parke Custis did not see, Robert Lewis, Washington's nephew and private secretary, did see. In 1827 he told Mr. Sparks that "he had accidentally witnessed his private devotions in his library both morning and evening; that on these occasions he had seen him in a kneeling posture with a Bible open before him, and that he believed such to have been his daily practice..." In an earlier paragraph, General Porterfield is quoting the same observation of George Washington, who found him "...on his knees at his morning devotions."

And if none of these witnesses are seen by the skeptics of Washington's Christian faith to be trustworthy as a persons with close second hand experience, that such powerful proofs are not good enough their unrealistic burden of proof, consider on the previous page 60, where is written, "Now we know the meaning of the entry in his diary in 1774: 'Williamsburg, June 1st. Went to Church and fasted all day.' Now we know what to think of his Church attendance."

And we know the depth of the devotions of Washington. How many of us today go to church and fast all day?

So, in summary, while the attitude of the author seems to reveal the all too prevalent skepticism of the scholar of the modern academy, too often "over educated" so to be unable to discern the Truth, even in light of ample evidence to convict, or reveal Washington's Christian convictions, before a jury of his peers; this book does a great service by printing these powerful passionate prayers from the penmanship of George Washington, and by printing the insightful essay of Rev. Herbert Burk of near a century ago.

Somehow it is appropriate, or as Washington would say "Divine Providence" that this book of his powerful passionate prayers in his own penmanship be published in Charlottesville by a man who worked as a scholar at the George Washington Papers Project at the University of Virginia.

Why? Because three years before he died in anno domini 1826, Thomas Jefferson, who is widely considered by academics to be an atheist, agnostic, deist, or at best a Unitarian whose faith in Jesus is marginal at best, chose a motto for his beloved university.

The motto is "And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free."

Those are the words of the Lord of the lives of both Washington and Jefferson, the words of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Gospel of Saint John, Chapter 8, verse 32.

And so it is with this book "The Ways of Providence: Religion & George Washington", the words of Washington, and many good people related or closely connected with Washington, "provide" the ways and the words for the reader to discern the Religion of George Washington.

It is not easy to discern the truth in anyone's spirtual life, whether Washington, or Jefferson, or Carter, or Reagan, or "George W." (Bush), but if you work to find the truth that is Mr. Grizzard provides in the covers of this book, from the essay by Rev. Burk, and the penmanship prayers of George Washington, it will set you free to understand the "Man for the Millenniums" George Washington, and the quiet powerful motive force in his life, his faith in Jesus Christ.

As General Washington wrote to his army after the trials and tribulations of Valley Forge in May a.d. 1778, "In addition to the distinguished character of a Patriot, it should be our highest glory to laud the more distinguished character of a Christian."

OK, OK, with the above hatchet job review, in the Spirit of the very young George Washington, I am not likely to get an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Virginia which has fallen away from the reverence of Jesus who spoke its motto, but one of the Laws of God is "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." and with my box 75 at Mount Vernon, I could not tell a lie about my neighbor George Washington, whose example we all should follow.

Amen?

The Spirit of George Washington LIVES! at Washington's Crossing (Trenton) and Valley Forge...

On Christmas Eve, in the Year of Our Lord 2000, the Millennium Year, as the Man for the Millenniums, George Washington, The Spirit of George Washington rode his horses and carriage from Mount Vernon to Valley Forge to the Washington Memorial Chapel to share a Washington Prayer at the traditional Midnight Christmas Service.

Some time later after all had gone home, the Spirit of George Washington knelt in the snow outside the Washington Memorial Chapel in the rolling hills of Valley Forge and prayed for our Nation in the same spirit as General George Washington had done so many times so many years before.

All across America, patriotic Americans are proud to say "I have one of those paintings of Washington praying at Valley Forge..." and often add, "with the horse." so I know immediately that they mean the beautiful work by the artist Arnold Friberg.

Here you see some screen shots of the artists website where you too can buy your very own copy of that wonderful scene of America's greatest leader, George Washington, humbling himself and kneeling in prayer to Our Father Who Art in Heaven for mercy for the life of his men, and for the life of our infant nation.

Some interesting linkages are that if you read Artist Arnold Friberg's biography you see that he was an artist for the Ten Commandments movie by Cecil B. DeMille.

When in April a.d. 2000, George Washington LIVES! did a Prayer Pilgrimage from February to July of over 30,033 miles four times from Sea to Shining Sea, he discovered in Washington, North Carolina an historical marker that as a boy Cecil B. DeMille grew up in that town of Washington, that claims to be the first named for George Washington (but then so do the towns in New Hampshire, Virginia, and Georgia.)

On 20 September a.d. 2000, the Spirit of George Washington LIVES! was the keynote speaker for over 100 college presidents and deans talking about this Constitution for the United States of America, and its relationship to the Ten Commandments and other of God's Law, as Divine Providence would have it the Master of Ceremonies told about a little boy in a small town during Holy Week who arrived at a church on a rainy Tuesday a quarter before the Noon time scheduled service.

No one else was there until 3 minutes before noon, and the preacher came in to an empty church. The little boy expected the preacher to say, "Well Sonny, there is nobody here, so you can run on home now." But instead, the preacher came and gave a stem-winder of a sermon and an inspired service that the boy said changed his life forever.

The boy was Cecil B. DeMille. The town was Washington, North Carolina.

And so as Paul Harvey would say, "And now you know the rest of the story."

Further, note that Arnold Friberg studied with the man who has been called "America's Favorite Artist" -- Norman Rockwell. In a.d. 1948, for the Boy Scouts, Norman Rockwell painted "Our Heritage" showing a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout looking up through the blue fog of History at General George Washington kneeling in Prayer for America.

The illustration shows the original Rockwell painting and the banner that the aide to General George Washington James Renwick Manship, Sr. prepared that removes the blue haze of History and the horse so the praying General can be more clearly seen. This revised image was placed on a banner that served as part of the backdrop to the C-SPAN televised George Washington Man of the Millennium Book Festival in Alexandria on 26 February a.d. 2000.

And a personal note is the much beloved grandfather of Washington's aide, "Major" Manship, was like Arnold Friberg, a student at the Chicago Art Institute. Ledlie William Conger, Sr. produced a book in a.d. 1971 called "Sketching and Etching Georgia" dedicated to his grandchildren, including James.

"George" and George - the General and the Senator in Roanoke

"General George Washington" meets with Senator-Elect George Allen at the Roanoke Hotel in December a.d. 2000, weeks after the General Election and weeks before the Senator was sworn into office in Washington.

George W. had just given George Allen a charming children's book by Mrs. Jean Fritz titled "George Washington's Breakfast" that shows George Washington and a little boy named --- George Allen! (George W. Allen, George Washington Allen, whose birthday was the same as George Washington...).

George Allen gave a great good laugh at the fact that the boy hero of the story was George Allen, and a portion of his bright, broad smile is captured in this photograph.

Later a video was made of the aide to General George Washington, namely "Major" Manship, doing a GrandPaPa George Revolutionary Reader Read-along reading of "George Washington's Breakfast" to his beloved boy, Jamey Manship in a red sweat shirt like the boy, George Allen, George W. Allen, George Washington Allen, on the pages (but not the front cover) of the book "George Washington's Breakfast".

Jamey likes to get PaPa's powdered wig, put it on his very own "noggin", and go "joggin'" around the house with an American flag between his legs like a stick-pony, calling out with joy, "Little Georgey, Little Georgey". Like Father, Like Son, Like "father of His country". (See the picture in the lower right of eight on the left side of the video cover.)

By the way, Senator George Allen, is George Felix Allen, and his birthday is March 8, 1952, his wife is Susan, not Martha, though they do wisely live in Mount Vernon like George and Martha. George and Susan are blessed to have three children, Tyler, Forrest, and Brooke. Senator Allen reports that his political heroes are Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan, fine choices, and one would expect George Washington as his political hero goes without saying!

Also, see the joy in the boy's face another time George Washington's Breakfast was read by his loving father to Jamey, or "Little Georgey", as you can see "Little Georgey" wearing a powdered wig and waving the American flag in the middle, and in the upper right, Jamey is doing the upright, right, and righteous thing to do, as he was taught as a toddler to do, to pray, so to be a Prayer Warrior, as is his father and the father of His country, George Washington. Jamey was taught that he is just as powerful a Prayer Warrior as George Washington, because Our Father in Heaven listens to all of our prayers equally. Teach your children the same powerful lesson.

That is always a good lesson, and in this story Jean Fritz teaches the lesson in a most charming way. Last time I checked, there were 81 used copies of the book on Amazon.com for less than $5 for you to buy along with buying a DVD of the Aide to George Washington reading the book to his son for the price of $17.35 for when GW was a three year old boy in a.d. 1735.

During the election of a.d. 2000, this "Bumper 'Snicker' " was created though never produced in large numbers. Too bad, if it had, the race would not have been so close!

Nonetheless, it is an attempt at humor in the Spirit of Ronald Reagan, the Great Communicator and a great president, for the revival in the minds of Americans of the Greatest President, George Washington.

Recently, President George W., that is the current President George W. Bush, has been playing on the same theme. Great minds think alike?

On Fathers' Day in the Millennium Year a.d. 2000 during the GW Tour All Across America, GW Lives! as the "father of His country" visited the birthplace of President Ronald Reagan, in Tampico, Illinois.

The collage of images relates to the many times GW Lives! and JRM have sought to honor Reagan, the "Man of the Century", the most important man in the world in the past 100 years, for under his leadership, the national malaise described by Carter was reversed and American's love of country was restored; the economic decline was reversed; and the "Evil Empire" of the godless Soviet Union was overwhelmed so that it collapsed shortly after Reagan passed the torch to his Vice President, George H.W. Bush.

On the Bicentennial of this Constitution, 17 September a.d. 1976, the "Aide to GW", then LCDR James Renwick Manship, USNR, sent the framed photograph of the "Sun Rising Over the American Capitol" seen in the pictures above on which was inscribed some words by Carl Sandburg shared by President Reagan in his a.d. 1984 State of the Union Address that were especially fitting:

"I see America,
in the Crimson Light of a Rising Sun,
fresh from the burning, creative hand of God.
I see great days ahead,
for men and women
of Will and Vision."

In addition, LCDR Manship dedicated a prose poem he wrote to President Reagan:

"A single drop of water,
Fallen from the Heavens,

A single leader, with purpose,
Following from the Heavens,

Does a Great Country make."

You, sir, have been such a "single leader".

George Washington visits city named for him

A welcome visitor from the past swept through Washington recently on a whirlwind tour of namesake cities and counties throughout the country.

George Washington arrived at the Washington City Hall Friday, March 10, in his full Colonial uniform and a flurry of activity intended to fan a flame of patriotism and renewed appreciation for the noble values which gave birth to America.

Of course it wasn’t the original Father of Our Country, but James Renwick Manship of Alexandria, Va., is definitely a reasonable — and convincing — facsimile.

In the nostalgic setting of the older part of the Mary Willis Library, Manship could easily be accepted as George Washington as he recited favorite quotations and traced the history of the developing nation.

Although it is now generally considered “politically incorrect” to promote religious virtues as part of a political credo, Manship emphasizes the deep religious faith that guided George Washington in his daily life and his national leadership.

“After the victory in our War for Independence,” Manship said, “many soldiers and citizens wanted to crown Washington as king, but he steadfastly held to the rallying cry of the patriots in the war: `No King but King Jesus!’

“Truly, Washington was the greatest renaissance man,” says Manship, a former officer in the U.S. Navy, as he spoke of Washington’s accomplishments as statesman, military genius, architect, surveyor, and scientific farmer.

“In fact, he advised Thomas Jefferson on crop rotation. He was one of the first to abandon tobacco as a crop because it ruined the soil.”

Manship grew up in Chamblee outside of Atlanta. He is a 1974 graduate of Auburn University, where he was a Navy ROTC student. After leaving the Navy in 1988 he moved to Alexandria, Va. to work at the American Defense Institute to promote voting. He is a computer consultant and trainer.

Manship has developed a variety of programs on the George Washington character he portrays. He is available to present a program “for free, for a fee, or for a love offering.” “This is a sort of ministry for me. It is an act of faith.”

Manship has a goal of visiting all the counties (33) and cities (121) in the United States named for George Washington. He pointed out that the sun rises on Washington, Maine, and sets on the State of Washington, shining along the way on all the Washingtons in the country.

“It is a privilege to be here in the first city to be incorporated in the name of George Washington,” he said.

GW Lives! on C-SPAN TV at GW "Man of the Millennium" Book Festival. This all day book festival was conceived, coordinated and conducted by the Aide to General George Washington, James Renwick Manship, Sr., the General's neighbor in Mount Vernon, with the aid of "Colonel" Harrison also of Mount Vernon, and "Colonel" William Federer, then a candidate for Congress from Saint Louis, Missouri, and the author of the wonderful reference book "America's God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotations". "GW" says "This is a book that next to the Bible should be in every American's library, or on their bedside table." Manship at the time was a Member of the Mount Vernon Board of Visitors appointed by Governor James Gilmore.

The next day George Washington LIVES! set out on an All Across America Journey, by George! going over 30,033 miles in five months, four times from Sea to Shining Sea, to each of the lower 48 state capitols, the 33 counties named for George Washington, and many of the 121 villages, towns, and cities named for America's greatest hero, and greatest President, George Washington!

(And "Colonel" Federer supported the All Across America Journey, by George! by giving FIVE CASES of his wonderful book "America's God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotations" that George Washington LIVES! gave to elected servants in many states so to help them with their speechmaking, and sold others to "feed his horses" on the All Across America GW Tour.
