The Spirit of George Washington LIVES! at Washington's Crossing (Trenton) and Valley Forge...

On Christmas Eve, in the Year of Our Lord 2000, the Millennium Year, as the Man for the Millenniums,
George Washington, The Spirit of George Washington rode his horses and carriage from Mount Vernon to Valley Forge to the Washington Memorial Chapel to share a Washington Prayer at the traditional Midnight Christmas Service.

Some time later after all had gone home, the Spirit of George Washington knelt in the snow outside the Washington Memorial Chapel in the rolling hills of Valley Forge and prayed for our Nation in the same spirit as General George Washington had done so many times so many years before.

All across America, patriotic Americans are proud to say "I have one of those paintings of Washington praying at Valley Forge..." and often add, "with the horse." so I know immediately that they mean the beautiful work by the artist Arnold Friberg.

Here you see some screen shots of the artists website where you too can buy your very own copy of that wonderful scene of America's greatest leader, George Washington, humbling himself and kneeling in prayer to Our Father Who Art in Heaven for mercy for the life of his men, and for the life of our infant nation.

Some interesting linkages are that if you read Artist Arnold Friberg's biography you see that he was an artist for the Ten Commandments movie by Cecil B. DeMille.

When in April a.d. 2000, George Washington LIVES! did a Prayer Pilgrimage from February to July of over 30,033 miles four times from Sea to Shining Sea, he discovered in Washington, North Carolina an historical marker that as a boy Cecil B. DeMille grew up in that town of Washington, that claims to be the first named for George Washington (but then so do the towns in New Hampshire, Virginia, and Georgia.)

On 20 September a.d. 2000, the Spirit of George Washington LIVES! was the keynote speaker for over 100 college presidents and deans talking about this Constitution for the United States of America, and its relationship to the Ten Commandments and other of God's Law, as Divine Providence would have it the Master of Ceremonies told about a little boy in a small town during Holy Week who arrived at a church on a rainy Tuesday a quarter before the Noon time scheduled service.

No one else was there until 3 minutes before noon, and the preacher came in to an empty church. The little boy expected the preacher to say, "Well Sonny, there is nobody here, so you can run on home now." But instead, the preacher came and gave a stem-winder of a sermon and an inspired service that the boy said changed his life forever.

The boy was Cecil B. DeMille. The town was Washington, North Carolina.

And so as Paul Harvey would say, "And now you know the rest of the story."

Further, note that Arnold Friberg studied with the man who has been called "America's Favorite Artist" -- Norman Rockwell. In a.d. 1948, for the Boy Scouts, Norman Rockwell painted "Our Heritage" showing a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout looking up through the blue fog of History at General George Washington kneeling in Prayer for America.

The illustration shows the original Rockwell painting and the banner that the aide to General George Washington James Renwick Manship, Sr. prepared that removes the blue haze of History and the horse so the praying General can be more clearly seen. This revised image was placed on a banner that served as part of the backdrop to the C-SPAN televised George Washington Man of the Millennium Book Festival in Alexandria on 26 February a.d. 2000.

And a personal note is the much beloved grandfather of Washington's aide, "Major" Manship, was like Arnold Friberg, a student at the Chicago Art Institute. Ledlie William Conger, Sr. produced a book in a.d. 1971 called "Sketching and Etching Georgia" dedicated to his grandchildren, including James.

"George" and George - the General and the Senator in Roanoke

"General George Washington" meets with Senator-Elect George Allen at the Roanoke Hotel in December a.d. 2000, weeks after the General Election and weeks before the Senator was sworn into office in Washington.

George W. had just given George Allen a charming children's book by Mrs. Jean Fritz titled "George Washington's Breakfast" that shows George Washington and a little boy named --- George Allen! (George W. Allen, George Washington Allen, whose birthday was the same as George Washington...).

George Allen gave a great good laugh at the fact that the boy hero of the story was George Allen, and a portion of his bright, broad smile is captured in this photograph.

Later a video was made of the aide to General George Washington, namely "Major" Manship, doing a GrandPaPa George Revolutionary Reader Read-along reading of "George Washington's Breakfast" to his beloved boy, Jamey Manship in a red sweat shirt like the boy, George Allen, George W. Allen, George Washington Allen, on the pages (but not the front cover) of the book "George Washington's Breakfast".

Jamey likes to get PaPa's powdered wig, put it on his very own "noggin", and go "joggin'" around the house with an American flag between his legs like a stick-pony, calling out with joy, "Little Georgey, Little Georgey". Like Father, Like Son, Like "father of His country". (See the picture in the lower right of eight on the left side of the video cover.)

Here is a screen shot of the Hotel Roanoke entrance, and below is a screen shot of the Hotel Roanoke complex with the Blue Ridge Mountains and the George Washington National Forest in the distance.

Come and enjoy the Hotel Roanoke, enjoy reading the classic book with your child or grandchild, and even enjoy having breakfast with George Washington at the Hotel Roanoke... or even over a campfire in the George Washington National Forest. (advanced reservations required, email for more information.)

By the way, Senator George Allen, is George Felix Allen, and his birthday is March 8, 1952, his wife is Susan, not Martha, though they do wisely live in Mount Vernon like George and Martha. George and Susan are blessed to have three children, Tyler, Forrest, and Brooke. Senator Allen reports that his political heroes are Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan, fine choices, and one would expect George Washington as his political hero goes without saying!

Also, see the joy in the boy's face another time George Washington's Breakfast was read by his loving father to Jamey, or "Little Georgey", as you can see "Little Georgey" wearing a powdered wig and waving the American flag in the middle, and in the upper right, Jamey is doing the upright, right, and righteous thing to do, as he was taught as a toddler to do, to pray, so to be a Prayer Warrior, as is his father and the father of His country, George Washington. Jamey was taught that he is just as powerful a Prayer Warrior as George Washington, because Our Father in Heaven listens to all of our prayers equally. Teach your children the same powerful lesson.

Below is an Amazon.com book review of "George Washington's Breakfast" that shares why this book is so good to read to children because it teaches them the value of work and persistence in gaining knowledge. That is always a good lesson, and in this story Jean Fritz teaches the lesson in a most charming way. Last time I checked, there were 81 used copies of the book on Amazon.com for less than $5 for you to buy along with buying a DVD of the Aide to George Washington reading the book to his son for the price of $17.35 for when GW was a three year old boy in a.d. 1735.

Below the Amazon.com review is a recipe for Amazin' pancakes that are "Age defying", and a picture of Washington Brand pancakes...

Maybe that is the secret to Washington's long life, and how it is that...

George Washington LIVES!

(P.S. The real secret is engraved in stone over where George Washington rests each night at Mount Vernon. If you want to know the secret, click on the envelope icon below and send me a note requesting the secret...)

My Vote for President? GW (naturally)

During the election of a.d. 2000, this "Bumper 'Snicker' " was created though never produced in large numbers. Too bad, if it had, the race would not have been so close!

Nonetheless, it is an attempt at humor in the Spirit of Ronald Reagan, the Great Communicator and a great president, for the revival in the minds of Americans of the Greatest President, George Washington.

Recently, President George W., that is the current President George W. Bush, has been playing on the same theme. Great minds think alike?

By the way, the phone number is no longer correct, try 540-343-6717.

GWLives!_honors_President_Reagan

On Fathers' Day in the Millennium Year a.d. 2000 during the GW Tour All Across America, GW Lives! as the "father of His country" visited the birthplace of President Ronald Reagan, in Tampico, Illinois.

The collage of images relates to the many times GW Lives! and JRM have sought to honor Reagan, the "Man of the Century", the most important man in the world in the past 100 years, for under his leadership, the national malaise described by Carter was reversed and American's love of country was restored; the economic decline was reversed; and the "Evil Empire" of the godless Soviet Union was overwhelmed so that it collapsed shortly after Reagan passed the torch to his Vice President, George H.W. Bush.

On the Bicentennial of this Constitution, 17 September a.d. 1976, the "Aide to GW", then LCDR James Renwick Manship, USNR, sent the framed photograph of the "Sun Rising Over the American Capitol" seen in the pictures above on which was inscribed some words by Carl Sandburg shared by President Reagan in his a.d. 1984 State of the Union Address that were especially fitting:
"I see America,
in the Crimson Light of a Rising Sun,
fresh from the burning, creative hand of God.
I see great days ahead,
for men and women
of Will and Vision."

In addition, LCDR Manship dedicated a prose poem he wrote to President Reagan:

"A single drop of water,
Fallen from the Heavens,
Followed by countless millions,
Does a Grand Canyon make."

A single leader, with purpose,
Following from the Heavens,
Followed by countless millions,
Does a Great Country make."

You, sir, have been such a "single leader".

Dear Mrs. Carris Kocher,

I believe I mentioned the issue of the renamed George Washington
School in New Orleans.

Here is what in the tradition of Martin Luther, I posted on both the
school door and the school board door in New Orleans in March a.d. 2000.

With this same email I am posting it on my site and will later add a
transcript for my penmanship is hard to read...

I found this while looking for the essay on Cato, GW, and Sally
Fairfax to send to you. It may be coming forthwith.

Again, I so much enjoyed your family's visit yesterday to Mount Vernon.

Thank you all, or y'all, as we say south of that line that forms the
southern border of your state.

Washington Georgia welcomes George Washington

George Washington visits city named for him

A welcome visitor from the past swept through Washington recently on a whirlwind tour of namesake cities and counties throughout the country.

George Washington arrived at the Washington City Hall Friday, March 10, in his full Colonial uniform and a flurry of activity intended to fan a flame of patriotism and renewed appreciation for the noble values which gave birth to America.

Of course it wasn’t the original Father of Our Country, but James Renwick Manship of Alexandria, Va., is definitely a reasonable — and convincing — facsimile.

In the nostalgic setting of the older part of the Mary Willis Library, Manship could easily be accepted as George Washington as he recited favorite quotations and traced the history of the developing nation.

Although it is now generally considered “politically incorrect” to promote religious virtues as part of a political credo, Manship emphasizes the deep religious faith that guided George Washington in his daily life and his national leadership.

“After the victory in our War for Independence,” Manship said, “many soldiers and citizens wanted to crown Washington as king, but he steadfastly held to the rallying cry of the patriots in the war: `No King but King Jesus!’

“Truly, Washington was the greatest renaissance man,” says Manship, a former officer in the U.S. Navy, as he spoke of Washington’s accomplishments as statesman, military genius, architect, surveyor, and scientific farmer.

“In fact, he advised Thomas Jefferson on crop rotation. He was one of the first to abandon tobacco as a crop because it ruined the soil.”

Manship grew up in Chamblee outside of Atlanta. He is a 1974 graduate of Auburn University, where he was a Navy ROTC student. After leaving the Navy in 1988 he moved to Alexandria, Va. to work at the American Defense Institute to promote voting. He is a computer consultant and trainer.

Manship has developed a variety of programs on the George Washington character he portrays. He is available to present a program “for free, for a fee, or for a love offering.” “This is a sort of ministry for me. It is an act of faith.”

Manship has a goal of visiting all the counties (33) and cities (121) in the United States named for George Washington. He pointed out that the sun rises on Washington, Maine, and sets on the State of Washington, shining along the way on all the Washingtons in the country.

“It is a privilege to be here in the first city to be incorporated in the name of George Washington,” he said.

GW Lives! on C-SPAN TV at GW "Man of the Millennium" Book Festival. This all day book festival was conceived, coordinated and conducted by the Aide to General George Washington, James Renwick Manship, Sr., the General's neighbor in Mount Vernon, with the aid of "Colonel" Harrison also of Mount Vernon, and "Colonel" William Federer, then a candidate for Congress from Saint Louis, Missouri, and the author of the wonderful reference book "America's God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotations". "GW" says "This is a book that next to the Bible should be in every American's library, or on their bedside table." Manship at the time was a Member of the Mount Vernon Board of Visitors appointed by Governor James Gilmore.

The next day George Washington LIVES! set out on an All Across America Journey, by George! going over 30,033 miles in five months, four times from Sea to Shining Sea, to each of the lower 48 state capitols, the 33 counties named for George Washington, and many of the 121 villages, towns, and cities named for America's greatest hero, and greatest President, George Washington!

(And "Colonel" Federer supported the All Across America Journey, by George! by giving FIVE CASES of his wonderful book "America's God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotations" that George Washington LIVES! gave to elected servants in many states so to help them with their speechmaking, and sold others to "feed his horses" on the All Across America GW Tour. Bless him and your family, buy this book!)

Keeping Washington alive, by George! by W. Times Stacy McCain

Keeping Washington alive, by George

by Robert Stacy McCain

George Washington lives.

America's first president died 200 years ago today, but James Renwick Manship of Mount Vernon has dedicated himself to keeping Washington's memory alive.

"I've had Washington on the brain for years," says Mr. Manship, 46. "I've had an interest in history that my grandparents instilled in me."

That interest has led Mr. Manship, a former Navy officer, to a second career portraying Washington in living history presentations for school, church and civic groups.

"I've given over 100 presentations this year, including over 6,000 high school kids from all across America," he says of his costumed performance titled "George Washington Lives."

Mr. Manship, who was named last year to the Mount Vernon Board of Visitors by Gov. James S. Gilmore III, believes that teaching about the life and beliefs of Washington helps promote greater unity among Americans.

"Telling about George Washington . . . is the best way to reunify the nation," he says. "That's basically the goal, to tell about the principles of George Washington and the founding fathers, and how they created a nation unique among all other nations on Earth and throughout history."

Mr. Manship first donned his gray wig, tricorner hat and blue-and-buff Colonial uniform in 1997, when he participated in Alexandria's Washington Birthday Parade - and won the George Washington look-alike contest.

In 1998, he gave presentations about Washington's life at Christ Church in Alexandria, where Washington attended. This year, Mr. Manship began giving presentations for visitors to the Washington area for tourist companies, including American Christian Tours.
Mr. Manship says he tries "to present a three-dimensional George Washington." He says historians usually present only the founder's public career and his private family life, neglecting Washington's Christian faith.

"George Washington was definitely a man of faith," says Mr. Manship, noting that when he was first inaugurated as president, Washington concluded his oath of office with "so help me God," a phrase that has since become a traditional part of the inauguration ceremony.

In presenting the spiritual aspect of the "three-dimensional" Washington, Mr. Manship has reprinted a 1919 book by William J. Johnson, "George Washington, the Christian." He has also distributed thousands of fliers calling attention to the record of Washington's faith:

* On July 8, 1776, the day the Declaration of Independence was read to the Continental Army, Washington wrote to his troops, "The General hopes and trusts that every officer and man will endeavour so to live, and act, as becomes a Christian Soldier."

* At Valley Forge, Pa., on May 2, 1778, Washington wrote, "In addition to the distinguished character of a Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of a Christian."

* In his Farewell Address, Sept. 19, 1796, Washington said, "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports."

Schools seem to be purposely demoting Washington from the pantheon of American heroes, Mr. Manship says.

"As part of the historical, or hysterical, revisionism that's going on in the schools today, the schoolbooks have reduced the coverage of Washington from say, a dozen pages to maybe half a page," he says. "It used to be . . . that every student studied Washington's Farewell Address. And we would have a wiser nation if students again studied Washington's Farewell Address."

Another lesson today's students could learn from Washington, Mr. Manship says, is good manners. When Washington was a boy, he copied out in his notebook "Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation," a list of 110 rules and principles that guided him throughout life.

"I go to public schools and talk about the `Rules of Civility,' " Mr. Manship says. "If American students at Columbine High School had studied the Rules of Civility, we wouldn't have had that tragedy, if they had made it part of their hearts the way Washington made it part of his heart."

Mr. Manship has created the nonprofit God and Country Foundation - www.godandcountry.org - to support his effort to promote the ideals of Washington and the founding fathers. His office, in the attic of his Mount Vernon home, is packed with books of history and biography.

At 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Mr. Manship will participate in "a celebration of the Christian life of George Washington," at Christ Church in Alexandria. The Mount Vernon estate is sponsoring a re-enactment of Washington's burial Saturday morning.

One of Mr. Manship's favorite images of Washington is of the general kneeling in prayer - an image that has been reproduced in statues, paintings, on postage stamps, and in stained glass in the Capitol. Mr. Manship points out that President Reagan in 1982 said, "The most sublime picture in American history is of George Washington on his knees in the snow at Valley Forge."

Mr. Manship adds, "The thoughts, works and work of Washington are still relevant for America today.

Thank you for your time and interest. The entries after the first few are basically entered according to the date, most recent first. Please use the scroll bar on the right of your finder to see the many and varied items of information available here.

There is a February a.d. 2000 Teaching Journal essay of "Washington: Deist? Freemason? Christian?" that sets the record straight on those contentious questions. Another essay is on the origin of the famous Washington boyhood "Rules of Civility". Another is a Letter to the Editor refuting the erroneous scholarship of an employee of Mount Vernon who wrote a terrible article for Mothers' Day a.d. 1998 titled, "Washington and his mother: No Love Lost", when in truth, Washington was a very loving and loyal son, as his mother was to her son George. That letter reflecting good and true scholarship was read by an aide to Governor Gilmore that resulted in the Governor appointing me to the Board of Visitors to Mount Vernon later in a.d. 1998, where I served for 3 years.

In December a.d. 1999, with Michigan State Washington scholar Dr. William Allen as co-author, wrote an article titled "World's Greatest: The Man for the Millenniums - George Washington" with that tells much good information and about a page and a half of the true story of Washington and Slavery, but since such a viewpoint is not "Politically Correct", an email distribution to over 700 publications did not yield one known printing of the very well researched and written article. PC run amok in the media.

In a.d. 1999, over 120 performances were given as The Spirit of George Washington LIVES! to over 5000 high school students on tour to Washington, as well as other civic and church groups. Washington came alive in the minds, hearts, and lives of the future leaders of America!

In a.d. 2000, George Washington LIVES! traveled four times from Sea to Shining Sea to each of the 48 Continental State Capitols and 33 counties named for George Washington, over 30,033 miles from Washington's Birthday, 22 February to 24 July. See the map below...

Also there are links to other related Washington LIVES! websites at several places, and nicely gathered together at www.HistorySC.com where we had a smashing good show when General Cornwallis surrendered his sword after 225 years of waiting. Create your own link by clicking the link line.

Remember that in anno domini 1770, when Washington was just a retired Colonel of the Virginia Militia before ascending the stage of World History as a leading actor, he said,
"History is an essential study to better government."

This one page letter was prepared for a fine lady, Dr. Lois Williams, who served on the Virginia Beach School Board and who wished to have a description of why teaching History, and especially American History, was an important subject in American public schools, where "Social Studies", has supplanted Civics, Government, and History.

In a.d. 1770, retired Colonel George Washington said at Belle Glade, Ohio Territory (modern day Marietta, Washington County, Ohio): "History is an essential study to better government."

Statesmanship, or Acting in the Role of a Leader

America’s Educator and creator of America’s Dictionary, Noah Webster in 1828 wrote: (And note that once Webster applied for a job with GW, but was NOT hired.)

“Literary power and statesmanship
were combined in George Washington,
the greatest political leader of his time
and also the greatest
intellectual and moral force

of the Revolutionary period.

Everybody knows Washington
as a quiet member
of the Virginia Assembly,
of the two Continental Congresses,

and of the Constitutional Convention.

Few people realize that he was also
the most voluminous American writer
of his period,
and that
his principles of government
have had more influence
on the development of
the American commonwealth
than those of any other man.”

Fifty years before, in 1788, while waiting on the states to ratify the greatest accomplishment in his entire life, “this Constitution for the United States of America” – the Supreme statement of Statesmanship, one of the most
Sacred Documents in the History of Mankind – the President of the Constitutional Convention, retired General George Washington, wrote:

“A greater drama
is being acted on the American Stage

than heretofore has ever been
acted in the world.”

Not all “Acts” are “pretend” or fiction or drama, even though dramatic. In life are Acts of Courage, Acts of Kindness, Acts of Prayer, Acts of Grace, and Acts of God.

A member of the Virginia Assembly, and a teacher for three decades, and a man who knows His history, Delegate Lee Ware, wrote in 2002:

“What David McCullough and others are doing
between the covers of printed books,
Mr. Manship is doing in person...

the substantive information
combined with pageantry of costume

is an extraordinary entry
into the life and times of an era...”

I say, “I seek to share a ‘three dimensional portrait’ of The President ‘...first in the hearts of his countrymen’, George Washington, ‘He was second to none...’ ” The three dimensions to which I speak are his Public Life for America, his Private Life with family, and his Prayer Life from boyhood on.

Craftsmanship is key, I craft my “act”, my keynote, to your unique needs at your banquet or function.

--- Please contact me to learn of when I might be available for your function, or for information on the hundreds of companies, associations, conventions, schools, colleges, churches, or civic groups where “GW” has spoken.

Happy Birthday George Washington, America's Original Action Hero, Caped Crusader for "tHis Constitution..."

The 22nd of February

Happy 275th Birthday, anno domini 2007

Happy 300th Birthday, anno domini 2032

"When the birthday of Washington is forgotten,
Liberty will have perished from the earth."
- President, 23 February a.d. 1860
(who was the President to whom I refer?)

How close are we in America today to have forgotten the true meaning of Washington when he is watered down and clumped together with lesser souls in a Madison Avenue mis-phrasing of "Presidents' Day"?

Take time to search this site to learn anew about the old and true... George Washington!

Welcome, and Happy Hunting in the fields of splendor for the Truth of George Washington!

Washington was described by Thomas Paine as "The World's Apostle of Liberty".

George Washington is America's Original Action Hero, a "Super Hero"

"The Caped Crusader for this Constitution",

"The Man for the Millenniums!"

The most important man in the world in the past 1000 years.
The first military man in over 2000 years since before Jesus Christ
since Cato and Cincinnatus of the Roman Republic;
the man who signed "Your most humble & obedient servant,"
the man who refused to be named King of America,
and thereby gave birth to our American Republic,
rightly earning the revered title of

"father of His country".

The Man for whom the Federal Holiday in February is named,
Washington Birthday Federal Holiday

(NOT "Presidents' Day", think rationally,
do "We, The People" really want to honor all the past presidents?
Think of the disgraces of Clinton, Nixon, Harding, Grant.)

And for those Presidents we do choose as worthy to honor,
let us create a new Presidents Day for April 13th,
the middle of the longest time between federal holidays.

As was said by General and Congressman "Light Horse Harry" Lee,
father of General Robert E. Lee, in his eulogy of 26 December a.d. 1799,
George Washington was, and ever should be...

"first in war, first in peace,
and first in the hearts of his countrymen;
he was second to none..."

Washington at Reagan's Boyhood Home,
Fathers' Day a.d. 2000, Dixon, Illinois

Second to None, before Ronald Reagan (Republican)
